textnow data permanently linked to ipod touch?

  • Question

I have this extremely curious problem. Okay. So I've setup a textnow username and got a phone number on my ipod touch. Whenever I restore my ipod touch back to factory settings and I reinstall textnow, my textnow username and phone number is still there... is that a feature of textnow where it links a specific ipod to that username and number or did my restore not work properly? I wanted to know this for a long time now.

Each iPod has a special code associated with that device. This code is called a UDID. You can see your UDID in iTunes by going to your iPod screen and clicking on "Serial Number" label; it will change to UDID. When you install Textnow, it registers your UDID so even if you delete app or in your case a restore, Textnow still remembers your UDID.

Hope this helps :)

How can I prevent textnow from associating it with my device through the UDID?
I ask this because I'm planning to sell my ipod touch, restore it to factory settings, and remove all traces of the apps I've installed including textnow. I don't want the person to be able to have my textnow address or the phone number I chose. Is there any way to do this- clear all data textnow associates with my ipod touch?

Thanks.

One way is to Jailbreak, the other is to just post a thread here asking an Admin to delete your Textnow account.

The thing with Jailbreaking is that the guy who you will sell it to will have to have it Jailbroken too. If he un-jailbreaks, then he will be able to access your Textnow stuff. This is cuz there is an app you can get on a Jailbroken device that changes the UDID, but if that app is removed, then the original UDID will be restored. Thats why it is much better to ask an admin to delete your account.

Your account will be remembered. Any addons that you purchased will be able by the guy who you will sell it to if he gets textnow.

Bottom line, if you want to not have your iPod remember textnow, just post a thread asking to remove your Textnow account.

An account is selecting your number and textnow address (example@textnow.me).
