Bad _system.opt

Can you advise why this Eycon, V5.8, _system.opt file indicates a Bad _system.opt file event in the Eycon Event/History file when the Eycon is started? The _system.opt file opens without error with the Instrument Options editor. As a test, I created a 0 length _system.opt file and opened it with the Instrument Options editor, made minimal changes, saved it, downloaded it to the Eycon and power cycled the Eycon and got the same resutl - Bad _system.opt file. There were more entries in teh original _system.opt file.

    Hi Chris,
When I did the same process as you (blank _system.opt file, open it, save it to disk) I get this in my file:

Typically, I would recommend you create a blank _system.opt and perform an 'upload' from the Eycon. If however it is reporting it as bad/corrupt etc. I would recommend you make a minor change to the config in the Eycon (using the front panel) and ensure you perform a config save at the Eycon. Then try this procedure:

    • Create blank _system.opt using create new text file
    • Open it under the Eycon instrument folder
    • Choose Upload current option settings
    • Save it and Download it back to the Eycon

    • Sorry, this is a band aid. My point is I have a system.opt file that opens successfully with no warnings or errors with the instrument options editor and is saved from the instrument options editor to a properly formated system.opt file yet the eycon complains it is a bad. A newly formated system.opt file with minimal changes (LIN node address) produces the same result, so is the problem the eycon or the instrument editor? We are having touchscreen lock up issues with numerous eycons and UK R&D is pointing the finger at some error messages in the Event and Dump logs and inferring that our touchscreen lock ups are due to other error seen. I need to be able to correct the problem and understand why the problem is occurring.

      Chris,
Did you try the steps I suggested above?

    I'm

e.g. happy, confident, thankful, excited indifferent, undecided, unconcerned kidding, amused, unsure, silly sad, anxious, confused, frustrated

  • This is what I did.
    1) On the PC, created a null system.opt file, opened with Instrument Op Editor, made LIN node change, downloaded to Eycon, power cycled, got Bad system.opt file event.

    2) On the Eycon, deleted the system.opt file, power cycled Eycon, Eycon created system.opt file; power cycled Eycon again, no Bad system.opt file event

    3) transferred Eycon system.opt file to PC opened with Instrument Op Editor, downloaded to Eycon, power cycled Eycon, got Bad system.opt file event.

Did a file difference of the various system.opt file that I had saved. The Instrument Op Editor is placing duplicate entries in the system.opt file; the entries are not in the same order in a system.opt file that creates a Bad system.opt file event and one that does not; the Instrument Op Editor is not creating entries with the same name - SAVER_BRIGHT vs. SAVER_BRIGHTNESS.

I don't which entries, if any, are causing the Bad system.opt file event, but I plan to recreate all the system.opt files from the Eycon and not use the Instrument Op Editor.

    Chris,
This begs the question what version of Instrument Options Editor are you using - which package did it come with?

    Chris,
Are you in a position to update to current software Foxboro PAC 6.1 ? I think you may have an unusual error there - we are unable to reproduce it.

  • While I am in a position to upgrade to 6.1, we will not upgrade to 6.1 as 2 other colleagues had other issues with 6.1.
