iTools "Scan" won't find a T2550, while ping is successful

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I am trying to get started on a minimalist PAC T2550 duplex+AI2+DI8 controller my company bought (we bought multiple bigger systems of the same type, this is to prepare ourselves), but cannot communicate with it.

What I've done:
- Plugged only one PAC in the "motherboard" where the AI2 and DI8 are plugged, and set the nearby switch to the SIM/simplex position
- Set all the LIN ADDRESS switches to 0 to get the IP address 192.168.111.222
- Connected 24Vdc to P+/P- of the primary DC supply terminal block, plugged in a straight Ethernet cable in the PAC port (not the serial port RJ45) and plugged the other end in a ethernet switch to which I also connected my computer (straight cable)
- Set the computer address to manual 192.168.111.200 subnet 255.255.255.0
- Went in Control panel > iTools > TCP/IP then added 192.168.111.222 port 502 and 49152 (tried both, neither works)
- Checked in a terminal that ping 192.168.111.222 yields a reply - 4/4 packets OK
- Started iTools engineering and scanned for all devices, and only for 222. Either way, no device is found.

Is there something I'm not doing right?

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards
G.M.

    You will need a card reader to be able to configure the unit, if you do not have FTP access to the T2550. You will need to edit the network.unh file. This will allow you to set the IP address from something other than the default 192.168.111.222. You also need to set a protocol name in this file. This does have examples built in to the file. Example Network.unh file looks like this:

    [ELIN]
    ProtocolName=NET

    [IP]
    IPaddress=192.168.111.2
    Subnet=255.255.255.0
    DefaultGateway=0.0.0.0
    DHCP=off
    LinkLocal=off
    BootP=off

    You should also set the address switches to be a unique number. To then interact with the T2550, you will need FoxboroPAC installed onto a PC connected to the same network as the T2550 with an IP address in the same subnet.

    To clarify a bit more ...

    The T2550 ( note it begins with a T ) is from our T series range which use Eurotherm's LINTools software for configuration rather than iTools.

    The T2550 has both an IP address and a LIN address so that it can communicate on the ELIN network ( ELIN = Ethernet Local Instrument Network.)

    The IP address is on the Network.UNH file as Bryan has detailed.

    The LIN address is set via the dip switches on the T2550 backplane.
    The LIN address can be anything between 02 and FE in hexadecimal.

    Note that setting all the dip switches off means that there is no valid LIN address, but it does mean that the device adopts a default IP address of 192.168.111.222

    Even after you have configured the addresses, you will need to learn how to configure the T2550 using LINTools. On the DVD called FoxboroPAC that Ludovic and Bryan have mentioned there are reference books - please see Start - Programs - Invensys - Foxboro PAC - documentation - online books
    However, these are reference manuals rather than training courses or tutorials.Please tell me which country you are in, perhaps we can arrange some support or training for you. Do you know the name of your Eurotherm account manager?
    • Thank you for the clarification, this is most useful. I am currently testing some project's hardware to prepare for what is planned for another project - meaning I am not the one who bought this hardware. I thought it was clear iTools had to be used for this setup, but if LinTools from FoxboroPAC is required then I'll find the CD that has been shipped with this hardware.

      We are still weighing pros and cons between this solution and another, but if we go for that one then I'll definitely be interested in some training and will be in touch (in UK).
    • By the way, I can't find any VI for Labview for this controller once configured. Do we have to request them or does that mean that none exists?

    The pac dvd has eurotherm project on it use the network explorer which will find your T2550 providing you have followed the above instructions for addressing.
    P.s. Do not forget to give other processor a different I.p. Adress
