    Hi Mordechi,

These parameters identify the IP address of a Master controller. This could be anything from a strategy engine to a simple setpoint broadcast. As such, it is important that this Master remains in communication with the Nanodac. To this end, one of the 4 TCP sockets is reserved for use by the Preferred Master, ensuring that high network traffic cannot lock it out.

The extranet has a lot of useful information about Modbus TCP network :

  • Hi Mordechi,

Jon is correct. The nanodac will accept up to 4 simultaneous connections. The preferred master is the IP address of the “device” you always expect to connect to a nanodac. Think the Preferred master as a VIP with a permanent reservation to nanodac connections.
When the Preferred master initiates a connection, if all 4 nanodac connections are occupied, then one will terminated to allow the preferred master to connect.

  • i have configured an IP master connection in nanodac. In nanodac it is in configuration => Modbus Master. And I would like to communicate with MINI8 also. This communication will be in configuration => network. It will also be tcp/ip.
What is the priority of this connection when i am working with the 2 types of connections.

  • Hi Mordechi,
Please remember the nanodac is a Slave and a Master.

As a Slave and it will accept 4 incoming connections from other masters and as a Master it will communicate with 2 Slaves.

    Nanodac as a Slave:
The nanodac Configuration=>Network=>Modbus page is where you configure the preferred master to connect to the nanodac as a Slave. The page also displays the IP addresses of all the active/connected masters, these appear in Master Conn1, Master Conn2, Master Conn3, and Master Conn4 and preferred Master

    Nanodac as a Master:
The nanodac Configuration=>Modbus Master page is where you configure the slaves you would like to communicate with. like a Mini8 or a 3200.
In order to connect to a Mini8 via EthernetTCP you need to configure it as a Slave1 or Slave2 in the nanodac
    1) Go to the nanodac Configuration=>Modbus Master=>Slave1=>Main page
    2) Set the IP Address to be the same as the Mini8 IP Address
    3) Set Unit Id to be the same as the mini8 device Address
    4) Change the Online value from x to √
    5) Change the Profile to mini8
    6) Change Search Device to Yes. This will search for the mini8 and if found the Search Result will display “Available”
    7) In this page you can define how often slave data (in your case mini8
data) is updated (known as priority values.) The default priority values are: High Priority =0.125sec, Medium Priority =1sec and Low Priority =2sec
    8) Go to the Configuration=>Modbus Master=>1=>Data
    9) Set in the Parameter List the mini8 parameter you want to read or write
    10) If you choose to write then set the value to write in the Value filed.
    11) You can specify how often the data is updated by setting the Priority setting to Low, Medium, High

I hope you find this information useful
