Revisit how you edit your profile/countries visited/etc...

in the Traveler profile, you need to move the edit roll overs to be closer to their corresponding area. I would probably make them links for the main profile information and make the Countries visited area linkable spans or something. Its just really confusing on what you are editing when you click edit.

We totally agree with you. We're going to redesign that page a little bit. What do you think about moving the countries visited stuff underneath the profile pic, so the rest of the profile can be larger and prettier?

We also want to make your trips more prominent on the profile page, so if you have any suggestions, let's hear them!

  • Yeah, moving the countries visited underneath the trips section might work. If you do that though you will have to focus on making it stand out like it does now. Otherwise people wont notice it when they have filled out multiple trips.

But then you have to wonder, do the trips need to be on the profile page? I mean you want people to use the service for a long time and your target audience is probably people who travel a lot. So that means they are going to be recording a ton of trips into the system. What happens on the profile page when they have 10? 15? or even 20 trips (The google maps "image" is taking up a ton of room on its own).

Would it be better to have the Trips main tab link (not the drop down link) go to a landing page where it displays all of your trips (sortable by date, title, etc..) and probably paginated so they are easy to go through. This way the essential profile stuff pops out on the profile page and then it does not matter where the countries visited block is located.

But then this screws with how you go to another person's profile page and see all of their trips located at the bottom.

I dont know, just projecting out the growth of how much data people may feed the system you may want to consider how that will impact the UI.

What do you think about getting rid of the maps next to each trip on the profile page and replacing it with a thumbnail pic of the trip?

Maybe we just show the 5 most recent trips, and roll up everything else?
In your mind, are you more interested in how someone filled out their profile, or what trips they've taken?

  • The trips are the focal point of the site. Since I am driving my friends to my page, they should already know my "personal" information.

    1) I would get rid of the map and allow someone to tag or upload a thumbnail as the picture.

    2) If you list only the 5 most recent trips how do you get to previous trips? This is where I think going to everlater.com/jchauncey/trips controller would be beneficial.

My profile is not important, my trips are.
