My Temple and Family History Consultants
Yesterday I was training a new Temple and Family History Consultant and a member of her ward came with her who needed help that the newly called consultant could not offer. As the Stake Temple and Family History Consultant I was showing them how they could find Help, and the other Temple and Family History Consultants. The names came up, but both of these sisters were new to their ward. They did not know who the consultants were. I described them to them, but then thought it would be great if the pictures came up with the names and contact information like it does in the ward directory. This would make it easier for people to recognize who the consultants are and actually contact them. https://www.familysearch.org/ask/help

The desire to up-load a "Photograph" of yourself, on such a public medium as "FamilySearch", is really a "Privacy" matter; even, some Members of the Church, being "Temple and Family History Consultants", many NOT want to up-load a "Photograph" of themselves on "FamilySearch", for whatever reason.

That should be understood and respected.

Please do not get me wrong, I understand the premise; and, desire, of your post.

But, you have to understand that we are all different.

I do not know if you remember; but, many years ago, some of us "Family History Consultants" (as we were know way back then) used to wear a Name "Tag", with our "Name" and the "Title" of "Ward [or Branch] Family History Consultant" underneath, that we wore at Church on Sundays.

Perhaps, the re-introduction of Name "Tags", with one's "Name" and the "Title" of "Ward [or Branch] Temple and Family History Consultant" underneath, that can be worn at Church on Sundays, would address/fix the problem/issue that you have raised in this post.

    Food for thought.

    I hope that this helps.

I think the necessary privacy may already be in place. The consultant names on the Contact Us page are drawn from the online directory, and a user can only see them if signed in. If a consultant has shared his or her photo in the online directory, presumably there wouldn't be a problem with ward members seeing it on the Contact Us page.

And if the consultant hasn't shared a photo, the Contact Us page could just show a placeholder.

Members are only able to see consultants from their own units; I can't see the consultants in someone else's ward and stake, and they can't see mine.

So I think any privacy concerns with Shanna's suggestion are covered.

'Yes', you are correct, in that non-member Users/Patrons do not get a list of the local Church "Temple and Family History Consultants" in their area.

    But ...

You fail to see my point ...

Even today, some Members of the Church, being "Temple and Family History Consultants", may NOT want to up-load a "Photograph" of themselves on, either, "LDS Tools"; and/or, "FamilySearch", for whatever reason.

There are many Members, in the Wards/Branches; and, Stakes, that I have been in, who have NOT added; and, DO NOT want to add, a "Photograph" of themselves in "LDS Tools". And, correspondingly certainly DO NOT want a "Photograph" of themselves appearing in "FamilySearch", regardless if that "Photograph" is restricted to only Members of the Church.

    So ...

"Privacy" is a big concern, even amongst Members of the Church, let alone out there in the general public.

    Photographs ...

If Members DO have "Photographs" of themselves in "LDS Tools"; and, ARE happy for those "Photographs" to appears in "FamilySearch", by giving "Authority"; and, the many 'competing priorities' in "Family Tree" and "FamilySearch" and very 'limited resources' available within "FamilySearch" are NOT "Impinged" by the additional "Coding" / "Programming" required; then, certainly 'go for it'; but, not at the expense of more pressing priorities.

    Therefore ...

Like I have already indicated, perhaps, the re-introduction of Name "Tags", with one's "Name" and the "Title" of "Ward [or Branch] Temple and Family History Consultant" underneath, that can be worn at Church on Sundays, would address/fix the problem/issue that is raised in this post.

  • Brett,

I'm sorry if it seemed I didn't understand your post. I agree that privacy is a concern for many. I was just suggesting that the Contact Us page could honor the user's preference in LDS Tools or the online directory as to whether to show the photo or not. That should make things relatively simple from a programming standpoint.

I'm sure the name tags would help somewhat. But I still think Shanna's point is valid. Is a ward member going to be able look at every member in the congregation to see if they're wearing a name tag? I think the pictures would still be helpful on the Contact Us page, as long as the member wanted his or her photo visible.

    Thanks!

Firstly, nothing is ever "... relatively simple ..." when it comes to "Coding" / "Prgramming"; and, especially, NOT, in "FamilySearch".

Just take a look at the 'revamp' of "Temple and Family History" Work; and, the problems/issues with regard to the 'Revised' "Callings"; and, "Assignments" in "Leader and Clerk Resources"; "LDS Tools"; and, "CDOL". It is just a nightmare.

Obviously, a Member at Church may not be able to see EVERYONE in their Ward [not so much a Branch] on Sundays, to see a Name "Tag".

But, if a Member wants to speak to a (Ward/Branch) "Temple and Family History Consultant" it is a very simple matter of asking the Elder Quorum President or one of the Elder Quorum Presidency; and, even if you do not know who is in the Elder Quorum Presidency, simply ask the Bishop/Branch President or one of the Bishopric/Presidency (including the Executive Secretary; and/or, Ward/Branch Clerk); and, failing that, even ask a Member of that Member's Auxiliary Presidency - which every way you chose, someone WILL know and, either, direct you or introduce you.
