I’m very hopeful

Adding contact information to the names in the conversation message screen.

Please add the familysearch id contact information to the names in the messages page, So when I click on the user name that sent me a message I can see their contact information. This way I would have been able to transfer a ordinance to her without having to look to another screen (or in this case several screens) to see her email (if supplied). I was able in this case to look at the changes on other family cards to find her id and click to find her email. (Time consuming!) Normally, I would have just sent her a message and asked her but time was important since she wanted to do the ordinance tomorrow and we are on different time zones. I so appreciate her help.

Thanks for your consideration.

  • Welcome to the community support forum for FamilySearch. FamilySearch personnel read every discussion thread and may or may not respond as their time permits. We all share an active interest in using the resources of this site and as users, we have various levels of knowledge and experience and do our best to help each other with concerns, issues, and/or questions.

When this happened to me, I responded and asked for their email address. When they sent it to me, I went ahead and transferred the names they requested at that time.

I totally understand your particular predicament, in the situation that you referred to.

But, something that you must keep in mind, is that, if a User/Patron DOES NOT make their 'Contact' E-mail address, "Public", in the "Settings" of "FamilySearch"; then, no matter what, even through "User Messaging" of "FamilySearch" you will not get access to a User's/Patron's 'Contact' E-mail address.

My 'Contact' E-mail address is NOT "Public"; but, when I am "Messaging" through "User Messaging" of "FamilySearch" I include my e-mail address after contact / dialogue has been established.

I know that it does not help in your particular predicament

I just though I toss that in for consideration.

Perhaps, there could be an additional "Setting" for a User/Patron to make their 'Contact' E-mail address; or, an additional 'Contact' E-mail address, "Public", in the "Temple" 'Tab', thereby, granting implied permission for another Member User/Patron to "Sent" the "Temple" Work directly to them. Certainly, 'food for thought'.

What you also have to keep in mind is that when you "Send" another Member User/Patron "Temple" Work directly through "FamilySearch", you are "Confirming" that you have permission to use that "E-mail" address. With regard to the aforementioned suggestion, you could be satisfied and could "Confirm" that you have the implied permission to use such "E-mail" address.

    Just another thought for consideration.

  • Actually, she did want me to have the email and it was public. She just forgot to put it into the message and thought I could just click on her id and see the contact information like in other screens, but you can't do that on the message screen. It worked out great anyway. I was dilligent and found her relative line, found an update she had made and click to find her public email on the changes screen. Took me an hour but I got the ordinance in just enough time for her to print it and take it to the temple on the east coast the next day.

Again, I totally understand your particular predicament, in the situation that you referred to.

Most would have just given up, your diligence would have been appreciated.

In that case; then, 'Yes': If the "Setting" for the "E-mail" address in "Public" for a User/Patron; then, "FamilySearch" SHOULD consider placing, both, the "E-mail" address and a hyperlink for that address, within "Messages" in "User Messaging" of "FamilySearch", for such Users/Patrons, as you have suggested.

Lets hope that this post of yours gets looked at by an "Official 'FamilySearch' Representative"; and, taken on-board; well, at least, placed in the ever increasing "Queue" of the many, many 'competing priorities'.

    Good suggestion

    Great post.
