Allow Family History Centers to List their Long Term Loan/Indefinite Microfilm Collections

It would be a really powerful and useful tool to allow Family History Centers to list their long term loan/indefinite collections at each center. This will allow other researchers know what each center has on long term loan and cut costs for everyone concerned. This would also allow people to check on the status of their microfilm order online.

  • The classic catalog does this now. It's up to the FHC to submit their holdings, but if they do they can be seen if you click View Film Notes button and then click the Show Locations button. The Show Locations only comes up when FHC have local films, but if they do there will be a list.

I tried searching for England, Yorkshire, Hull - Church records and selected Bishop's transcripts for Holy Trinity Church, Hull, 1600-1875. These films are held at BYU Family History Library, Los Angeles California Family History Library, and Ogden Utah Regional Family History Center.

This feature does not work on the beta catalog. When in doubt, try the classic version.

  • It would be even more helpful if I could see every long-term microfilm available at every Family History Center and be able to search for key words, such as Greenville South Carolina. The website for our Columbia Maryland Family History Center has this capability, but being able to easily search holdings of every FHC would be far superior.

Unfortunately the easiest way to get to our website is to Google "Family History Center Columbia Maryland." If you go to www.familysearch.org to the bottom of the page to find the nearest Family History Center, a box comes up that has our address, phone number, etc. If you click on the button that says "Website," instead of going to our Columbia Maryland FHC website, you go back to www.familysearch.org

If you want to make all of the microfilms searchable by keywords, locations should not be abbreviated. Our FHC added the name of the location in English for microfilms in a foreign language.
