Consultant Planner feature requests/direction

As a consultant I would like a feature in the Planner that allows me to enter notes (perhaps a research log sort of structure) that stay attached to the patron outside of a Lesson Plan - that help me to create a lesson plan for the patron. For example, before I teach them to find/search a source I need to find it myself (i'm not an expert genealogist for geographic areas that most patrons have questions about - so I need to do some research myself). Attaching that kind of note or reference to resources can help me create the lesson plan later without having to go find it somewhere - again.

It might also be nice to allow lesson plans to be delivered via FamilySearch Mail and a tracking/reporting feature within lesson plans allowing the patron to fill a checkbox/report when they have completed a lesson task. Yes, I understand that in-person visits are best but in order to expand the possibility to help busy patrons (because I'm busy too) it might be nice to send a lesson/task and get report when they have completed it.

Let me know if I am off-base and need to have in-person lessons.

  • Have you tried using the Track Progress section of the planner page for your notes? That is what I have found works well. Although, if it's the steps the member needs to use to find things, I think it's better to put them in the lesson plan itself. I like to give them the lesson plan after we meet so that they have all the steps to refer to when they are working alone.

Just my opinion here: I like to have a one-on-one in-person lesson with a member. At the end of that lesson, we talk about next steps, and I give them "homework" to do. We decide when they feel they can complete the assignment and schedule the next get-together around that. I'd rather focus on one member/family at a time until they have reached a level of relative self-reliance and then move on to another. But, I'm sure there are many ways to effectively help your members.

  • It would also be more efficient if the lesson plans could be sent directly from the planner along with any responses, . An interactive plan exchange between the consultant and consultee. (At least when I last use it, I had to cut and paste and Email --, maybe I missed something.)

  • Track Progress section was intended to be the area to do some of these thing you talk about: "a note or reference to resources can help me create the lesson plan later without having to go find it somewhere."

Please let me know if this sections isn't helping you achieve that goal.

  • I’m disappointed
Along this line of Consultant Planner improvements, I would really like if the planner had the date of "Last Submission", instead of Last Reservation. That way it would better correlate with what comes up in the Family History Activity Report.

As it is, we "think" that the patron is continually making progress, as their Last Reservation date keeps changing. However, if they don't print/share, it doesn't register in the FHAR.
