Deleted Documents by two websites

Between Ancestry.com this morning and this website, I have had a document removed from both web sites, I have notified ancestry verbaly in a phone call and they are looking into it on their end. Now it is missing here too, Ancestry turned the doc. into a card index, and removed the data from my sight from the 17th of Feb back. In fact we learned on the call I have been wiped out from that date going back. On notes, searches saves etc. Now I know that LDS is now having us reverted to that site for a lot of information, because they will charge for accounts that want to re search? Why is that? LDS should have more than Ancestry. Because that is what they are about. And not charging. When Did LDS contract with Ancestry? Today I cannot retrieve the document off here, It is gone (the actual DOC) from my shoe box. Same as Ancestry. It will not allow me to open any of the Naturalization's or passenger lists? What is going on with these two sites?

  • I can't speak for Ancestry, so I maybe confusing your terms.
If you believe FamilyTree has lost information have you checked the changelog of the Person? What is the PID and we could look into it.
If you believe the record from a Search in FamilySearch has been lost, do you have a link to it? If you added that Source in FS it will still be in your Sourcebox as only you can delete your sources.

    • I have a saying about computers: if it doesn't work the first time, try again, sometimes later.

As systems evolve and get more traffic there is more opportunity for things to go wrong. The slower the response time, the higher the load, and more chance an error will occur and the software just doesn't know what to do, because the code wasn't written to handle every possible future scenario.

I use the "refresh page" whenever something seems wrong, especially Sundays

  • Can you give us the specific ID number of the person in Family Tree for whom the data/source was removed and tell us what specific source was removed? Maybe we can help if we have some more details.

  • The system has been acting strange the last couple of days. I had a source that didn't automatically move over during a merge and presented as a complete blank. It showed as a source with no data at all. I moved it over just to be on the safe side but when I went to looked at the person all that showed were the two sources that had moved automatically.

I thought there had been an 1880 census source attached prior to the merge so went looking for it. When I found it it showed as being attached and when I went back to look at the PID again, there it was, along with the two that had moved over automatically. How it disappeared for a while is a mystery.

I don't remember which PID it was unfortunately.
