Editing a photo and purpose of Tag

I seem to be lost in this area as I don't see detailed instructions on what to do. I was able to import a picture and title it. Then realized I needed to up-date the complete names to tie it to the family tree. Could not find out how to 'edit' the name. Re-imported again. What or why the purpose of the 'tag' and it is round?

  • I think that they created the tags to be able to link images of the same people together. In a sense a tag creates an album for just that individual. The albums, can be any particular grouping of photographs. You could create an album for a particular genealogy line, or one of a single family. I have created an album called "Picture Pedigree" that holds pictures specially sized and formatted for putting into a picture pedigree chart. Why to have tags separate from albums? I think one reason would be marriages. My grandmother would be part of her parents' family until she married but part of her and my grandfather's family after. So while the Tag will show all of the pictures of Grandma. The Albums will show only the pictures of her that fall within that family or group.

You can tag the pictures anything you want, and can type in any name you want in the Search box "Possible Matches in the Tree" on the People page. You can type in the individual's PID from Family Tree in the search box to find the exact individual you want to link it to.

  • This seems to be a common question. Since we are not fully integrated with the tree, it does make it a little harder to see where we are going with this and why we should tag photos and link our ancestors to FamilyTree.

I have started to create and answer some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and made one to help answer this question.
