FYI -- Get Satisfaction problems.

Starting shortly after 5:00 AM Chicago time yesterday (Sept 18th), Get Satisfaction started having problems. No responses could take place in this forum. I eventually emailed Ron Tanner and Joe Martel about the issue because the only posts that were taking place were from FamilySearch employees, who evidently have more complete access to this forum.

It appears that about an hour ago (or maybe a little less), the issue was resolved and at this point, I can now post to the forum, and the site does not lose what I have posted.

  • It should be noted that about an hour and a half ago, I started getting messages from another Get Satisfaction forum. So the problem was evidently site-wide.

I got at least one response yesterday evening about 9:00 PM, Chicago time, and another at 3:00 AM earlier this morning (again Chicago time). Both were from other Get Sat forums, not this FamilySearch forum.

Thank you for confirming the problem, Tom. I thought it was just me! As others no doubt found, there was no problem composing and "repyling" to posts, but after a page refresh, everything just disappeared.

I entered an "is this site down?" query in Google but this seemed to show everything was fine. Surely there should be some way of conveying any problems to users, by the GetSatisfaction people or FamilySearch - although I can only think of the Blog as a possible way of communication?

Fortunately, I saved one reasonably lengthy response in Word, because the last time something similar happened all the new posts were there (one of mine repeated about 6 times!) once the system was properly back up again.

    Tom & Paul

Early on in the piece, I contacted 'Support', by telephone, the 'Support Missionary', who is also a participant in the Forum in their own right as a User/Patron, had thought that the Forum was a little strange; but, did not query the situation.

While on the telephone, they made a enquiry in their 'Support' Network; and, was advised that the Forum was "Down".

At the time, I did suggest that they get "FamilySearch" to put a "Banner" UP to the effect that the Forum was "Down" or subject to a serious problem/issue.

    Perhaps, such might have helped.

And, just perhaps, "FamilySearch" might consider such, next time.
