Getting Started: Linking a Tagged Person to FamilyTree

Once you have uploaded a photo and tagged an ancestor in that photo you will want to link that tagged person to FamilyTree.

Here's how to do that.

First view the photo that has been tagged. Go to "All Photos" and click on the thumbnail of the photo you want to work with. The photo will be displayed. It's the same page where you can tag people in the photo.

I am assuming you have already tagged your person and your photo page will look something like this:

On the right side of the screen there will be a "People in this Photo" list that shows who is tagged in the photo. Click on the name of the person you want to link to the tree. I have marked the name in yellow on the screenshot above.

When you click on the tag name, it will take you to the Photos person page and it will use the name in the tag to find possible matches in FamilyTree. Here's a screenshot after clicking on the name:

Now since this tag name includes birth and death years (which by the way, I personally like) it doesn't make a good match with the tree. So, I have marked in yellow the field where you can change the name. Take out the birth and death years from the "Name or Person Id" field, then click the Search button.

Here's a screenshot of the search results now:

At this point, if you can tell that the name on the top is the one you want, click the name to make the match.

If you are not sure, you can click the FamilyTree person Id number, and you will see more tree data about this person that may help you make the decision.

If you know that none of the possible matches are right, then open a new browser window to FamilyTree and find the person in FamilyTree. Then copy the person ID and paste it into the "Name or Person ID" field and click the "Search" button again.

When you get a matching person in the search results, click on the name to make the match.

When the tagged person is connected to the tree, his name will be green (instead of black) in the upper left corner and you will see a green box that contains his tree data on the upper right side of the page. Clicking the blue name in the green box will display the Ancestor page (Person View) in FamilyTree.

You have now linked the tagged person in the photo to FamilyTree.

One other note. Many people expect to see their photos directly in FamilyTree now, once they are linked to the tree. Photos are not fully integrated with FamilyTree so this will not happen yet.
