I’m beyond irritated.

I hate this search engine!

I hate the search engine for Beta.familysearch.org. You did such a fine job with the search engine on pilot.familysearch.org - why did you abandon it. I can't figure out how to get a correct response given the all purpose search engine. Please, please go back to the old search engine!

    • The methods you are describing barely work when we know what we are looking for. Unfortunately, most of us only have a hint of what we are searching for, and the "fuzzy search" capabilities of the pilot really helped highlight a group of records that we should fully examine. The beta does not do that.

Furthermore, the current method of narrowing the search by "place" is rapidly becoming ineffective because the number of "places" is growing rapidly. With the few hundred locations that are available now, users are complaining of too much scrolling to find what they want. What will it be like when there are millions more records added, and the number of locations grow from a few hundred to ten thousand or more? Will we have to scroll through them all to find what we want? It seems like the beta is demonstrating that it is unable to scale its capabilities to the long term requirements of the site.
    • To summarize --

I did a search for Rosanne Cross who died in Ohio. The result summary said:

      Birth, Marriage, & Death (56177)
      No further category filters found.

So, I have no way to locate Rosanne except to search through 50,000+ entries -- and that's the Beta. I can only assume when it goes live that 50,000 will be closer to 1,000,000.
  • I’m frustrated with beta in its current sate
all though the engine is better than it was a few months ago it is STILL VERY INFERIOR TO PILOT and that i believe is what is being pointed out sheila. the poster i feel does not NEED to be told the information you have put above. itS self evident to most that you use the site in the way you discribed. we all don't require being lead by the hand. your respose will not alter the fact that beta is currently effectivly BROKE and it is yet to be fix you should have said sathing like

we are aware that there are issues with beta in regard to its efficient and that many feel like your self that pilot is a search experience they much prefer. beta is a work in progress and our engineers are working as quickly as possible to enhance our patrons search experience with beta. we hope that in time you will feel that the wait as well the possible frustration that our patrons currently feel will be worth it when beta reaches the level we hope and leads to the level of satisfaction you currently feel with pilot and will eventually out shine the pilot search. building a search engine which will cope with the millions of records we currently have and are planing to add over time is something which will take a great deal of time. we are aware the current state of beta is not ideal. we ask all of our patrons to bare with us during the building of the search enginge currently called beta as our engineers are working hard to implement the program for the search engine in a form that not only satifies all but is efficent and worthy of our site.

no i am not an employee just a much frustrated user as the original poster!

  • Can you narrow it down with a death date and county. If you know the name of spouse would also be helpful.

  • I’m frustrated
I really don't like this new search. I am not finding anything!!!!!!!!!!!!! even records I had previously found on the pilot or the old site do not appear when I search for them.

it is a complete waste of my time and I imagine other peoples too.

Has anyone found records they are looking for?
