I can appreciate the original comment. I am a long term member and family history researcher; I've served in 2 FHCs; I've started, encouraged and coached probably over a hundred people on internet FH research. The original www.familysearch.org was not perfect but it was a fantastic tool and a resource to be proud of.
I was a beta tester for the new system and struggled to find anything positive. I was a FHC director when it went live in Australia, and struggled to be positive as I attempted to train people. This was difficult as I believe in being honest!
I am now in a rural area, working only with non-members, and on my own family history. I avoid the new site as it is useless for my research, and am desperately trying to do as much as possible on the old site before we lose it. My husband continues every Sunday to try and correct and combine the records of his family history on the new site, and usually quits in disgust after 2-3 hours. Like me, he still uses the old site for research.
If anyone wants to see why, just try finding everyone with the surname Ball christened between 1780 and 1850 in Newchapel, Staffordshire, England. It was relatively easy on the old system. On the new system, I wouldn't have the time or patience to do it - I can't filter for Newchapel and I can't filter for parish christening/baptism records.
The new site never fails to leave me bad-tempered and frustrated, and I've just about given up listing the faults in various forms of feedback. Just occasionally I come back here to see if anything might have improved. My husband will tell me if the site itself improves!
    • I have been using Family Search for a numbe rof years now and I too am totally frustrated with the new version. First, the trends nowadays on wbsites is to load it up with useless animatyion, images and just a lot of junk. You have to look through all the junk in order to try to find useful information. Unfortunately this is a trend in most commercial web siotes and it is annoying. Images of census pages take forever tyo load. Some census pages are readily availabloe while some are not and require some kind of fee from some service I've never heard of. This is terrible. If I want slow loading of document images I'll do my work on ancestry.com.As we have learned over the past two years, change does not necessarily mean a better outcome. Such is the situation with the new Family Search. Call me one disgruntled user.

  • What's with the stupid cartoon faces? I feel like I'm back in first grade with my teacher giving me happy faces for good work.
