Include Date When Records Were Added

ADDING THE DATE A GROUP OF RECORDS WERE ADDED AND BEING ABLE TO SEARCH FOR RECORDS WITHIN A DATE RANGE WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

FOR EXAMPLE I MIGHT SEARCH FOR RECORDS FOR JAMES EASTMAN AT THE END OF 2010. AT THE END OF 2011, I WANT TO CONDUCT ANOTHER SEARCH, BUT ONLY THE NEW RECORDS ADDED IN 2011.

ALSO IF I AM OVERWELLED BY THE RESULTS FOR 2011, I MIGHT SEARCH FOR RECORDS ADDED DURING JAN. 2011, THEN FEB. 2011, THEN MARCH 2011 ETC.

AT THE TOP OF YOUR SEARCH WINDOW, JUST HAVE BOXES TO SPECIFY “SEARCH ALL RECORDS” OR “SEARCH WITHIN A DATE RANGE”.

A VARIATION OF THIS MIGHT BE TO ASSIGN SEQUENTIAL NUMBERS TO RECORDS, AS THEY ARE ADDED, AND TO SEARCH ON NUMBERS RATHER THAN DATES.

THE PRECEDING WOULD ALSO REDUCE THE SERVER LOAD, AS YOU WOULD ONLY BE SEARCHING SOME OF THE RECORDS RATHER THAN ALL THE RECORDS.

Don, if I understand your post I think you'll be happy to know that if you select "all record collections" bottom of FamilySearch home page ~ and when the page opens click the text on the right "Last Updated". You will now see when the collection was updated and if it is new. The engineers have had this on their list for sometime... but things had to be done in order for this feature to be added. I agree this is badly needed and pleased it is now available. All the best.

  • Hello, following the idea. Could the very useful "Last Updated" sortable column, to be incorporated all the way down through the collections levels (i.e. country, state/province, county, town, parish, record...)? This would be more important while browsing images of unindexed parts of, or entire collections.
