Indicating Who Shared the Name with You

When people share family names to do the temple work, it would be great if the name cards could note/have the option to note the sender's name. (Or even if there were a way on the temple list to say who it was sent from.) Outside of the initial "accept names" screen, I don't know how to see who sent which names.

I currently take screen shots before I accept names so then I can write on the card under my information the name of the sender. This way, the cards will still be sorted under my name so I can easily collect them from the temple, but I also know who to return it to when the work is done. (I accept names from some friends in my old ward while the temple close to them is closed for renovation.)

  • Additionally, allowing senders to see who they sent which names to on family search would be helpful. I had a question on one family—I thought a sister sent them from her husband’s side, but discovered I, too, am a close cousin to the family, so I may’ve received them from my mom.

...and maybe my situation is really odd.

  • It also would be helpful if our temple lists showed which names we shared. I am finding that sometimes the people I share a name with do not complete the work. I worry those people may get "lost" and their temple ordinances may not be completed.
    • I was thinking that, too, Christine. One of the sisters who is sending me names sent some to someone else earlier this year, and she doesn’t think they’re getting done, and it’s difficult to identify which names she sent.

Though, isn’t there a two-year hold limit on ordinances? So in theory you could stumble across those names again in a couple of years. Not ideal, but possible.

Firstly, "Welcome" to this "FamilySearch" ( "GetStaisfaction" ) 'Feedback' Forum.

Secondly, "Official 'FamilySearch' Representatives", do monitor; and, sometimes, participate in, this Forum.

Thirdly, I am just another User/Patron, just like yourself (and, happen to be a Member of the Church).

Many Users/Patrons who regularly participate in this Forum who have a great deal of knowledge and experience with "FamilySearch", like to assist/help other Users/Patrons.

Finally, FYI, only recently (some 4 Months ago) there was another post requesting to know with whom the "Temple" Work was "Shared".

"Column in Temple section for those whom you've shared the names."

    https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea...

I hope this gives you some hope.

And, there was a similar post, along the same vein, as your post, around the same time as your post:

    "Tracking Progress of Shared Names"

    https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea...

So, it is just a matter of waiting to see what the 'revamp' of the whole "Temple" Section of "Family Tree" and "FamilySearch" will be like.

I know that it has been previously suggested/requested for a "ChangeLog" in the "Temple" Section of "Family Tree" and "FamilySearch", that would be helpful; and, may go some way to applying your request.

It would be so great if such a "ChangeLog" could record the User/Patron who initially "Reserved" the Work; and/or, those whom the "Reservation" was "Shared" with (and subsequently "Shared" with); and/or, the subsequent "Un-Reservations" and "Re-Reservations"; and/or, the change in "Reservations" through the new "OrdinancesReady" Feature; plus, track the "Progress" of the Work.

Of course, it would not help when that Work is "Shared", (1) around with family and/or friends and/or Members of the Ward/Stake by "Hand"; and/or, (2) waiting in the "Drawer" of the Ward/Stake in a Temple.

    Good suggestion/request.

    Great post.

    There is hope.

We will just have to wait and see.

  • Am I missing something? When we share, the receiver has a time limit to do the work. If not done, it reverts back to the sender.
    • Right, but that’s a 2 year time. Additionally, if you DO the work, there’s no way to keep track of who sent you the name so you can return the card unless you remember to print and mark it immediately after accepting it. At least for me, I sometimes forget to take a screen shot of who sent me which names, and then it becomes a guessing game.

I could be wrong; but, "Reservations" are now (and have been for a couple of years now) "Released" after 2 years if NO Work had started/commenced within that 2 Years; and, more importantly, that was not specifically related to Work that was "Shared"; but, related to plain every day "Reservations".

Now, with the NEW "OrdinancesReady" Feature, when Work is "Reserved" with that Feature, Work that was "Reserved" AND "Shared with the Temple System" is subject to a 90 Day time limit, if the Work is not completed within 90 Days' then, the "Reservation" reverts back to "Reserver" and the Temple System.

The only time limit I know of regarding Work that is "Shared" with others, is a 2 Week time limit for the "Shared" Work to be accepted the "Shared" Work.

  • Ordinances Ready has the 90-day limit to do the proxy ordinances. At the end of that time, the ordinances revert to their original state before they were pulled.

When one shares proxy ordinances, when they are accepted, the ordinances are now in possession of the person who accepted them. There is (or was -- it has been a while since I shared proxy ordinances with another person) a two-week period in which the person must receive the ordinances. At that time, they become that person's ordinances. If they are not accepted/received at the end of two weeks, the share is cancelled.

  • When I share an endowment with the temple and keep the seal to parent or spouse reservation to do myself, that SP or SS reservation is still subject to the two year rule EVEN though the temple takes longer than two years to complete so my SP and SS reservations are usually automatically unreserved unless I pay careful attention to them and unreserve and then re reserve. When I share ordinances with another person (through the temple list and their email) those ordinances, if accepted, go on the other person's temple list and are removed from mine. If they do not complete those ordinances within two years they are unreserved and I do not know their work has not been completed. I have documents I have created with names and PID of relatives I have added and sourced on family tree who need temple work who I have not reserved because I have so many reserved already, and/or those I have unreserved in the hopes another relative will find and complete the work. Until now i didn't think of creating a "shared with others" document!

  • Now I am concerned! I have scores of male endowments I shared with TF, reserving SP and couples to do myself, as a Sealer. Do I need to check any 2 years old or older to see if the endowment has been "unreserved" in TF, after I shareed it with TF? I was under the impression that the 2 year rule did not apply if it was shared with the Temple.

  • Ordinances shared with the temple are not subject to the two year rule. They will not be unreserved even if it makes them longer than two years. But if you saved sealings after sharing endowments with the temple those sealings will be unreserved if your temple takes longer than two years.

  • I recently went through all my 'shared with temple' names and unreserved all sealings (but NOT endowments so they don't lose their place in line) and then reserved sealings again. That gives two more years to wait for temple file to complete endowment.

  • The original reservation date is remembered by the system. Once the prerequisite proxy ordinances are recorded as complete, the original reservation date seems to take precedence and if beyond two years, gets released.

Basically, one either has to share those with the temple, or make sure that the reservation is recent by going to the person's temple page, releasing and then re-reserving the proxy ordinances.
