Mapping issue

In https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea..., David Roderick McLean raised an issue with respect to the fact that the mapping tool does not show multiple events at the same location.

I offered a solution (which could have gotten lost since Tyler loged a bug with respect to the original issue - TW-1431 - but it would be nice to know what is being considered -- perhaps my suggestion, or if this is on a to fix list for the new user interlace, or in development.

My solution included made use of this suggestion:

Clicking on All would highlight all entries for that place.
Clicking on Next would highlight the next entry for that place (and scroll back to the top, if needed.
Clicking of Previous would highlight the previous entry for that place (and scroll back to the bottom, if need.

Previous and Next could be swapped, but I think the illustrated layout is more intuitive.

  • A little over three weeks ago, I posted this suggestion as a result of thinking about a possible solution. An employee by the name of Tyler posted a Reference: TW-1431.

Please provide an update to this or the original post.

    Thanks.

  • No response that I have found on any threads about this issue, wherein only the first instance of a event place in the timeline is highlighted and there is no indicator of a) the number of events, or b) the ability to see all, the next, or the previous event.

  • I noticed a nice update to the timeline feature. I'm not sure when it was released but I haven't seen any mention of it here so thought I would point it out.

Instead of a generic red map pin, events are now indicated by icons in the pin if there is a single event or a number if multiple events. Clicking on a pin with a number expands the pin to show all the events at the location. If multiple events are not really at the same place just very close together on the map, when zoomed out, the pins merge and the number on the pin shows the total number of events in that region. Clicking on a pin highlights that event in the list of events and scrolls the list to bring it into view.

Looks like a very well done and complicated piece of programming to address most of the improvement requests brought up on this board when the map was first released.
