I’m frustrated !!!!!

more info on Library Catalog items, please.

maybe I'm a little confused as to how this library catalog works. I think it's great that I can request things and have them sent to the LDS Center near me, but there are hundreds of books - how will I know which one I want if there aren't any summaries of book content? even an index or something. My Family is all from Detroit, yet I am in Cleveland so "A Genealogical guide to the Buron Historical Collection" could be something valuable to me, but how woudl I know if I have no idea what's in the book.

  • There are usually "notes" and "subjects" listed when you click on a particular title. It's not much information but could guide you in the right direction.
We will submit your suggestion for a more detailed summary of the books. Thank you for taking the time to share your idea for improving the FamilySearch website. This system allows everyone to view the ideas of others and to vote on the ideas they like best. The ideas with the most votes do tend to get the most attention, but our product managers carefully review all the ideas. Please keep in mind that regardless of votes, some ideas may never be implemented. Many factors are reviewed to determine whether an idea should be implemented. Also note that some ideas take a long time to implement. We appreciate your contribution and hope that you will continue to share your ideas with us

  • thanks, but my point, which I see I didn't make clear, was that there was nothing extra EVER listed under "subject" or "notes." none of the subject lines had any more information than an extended title and out of all my searches, most had nothing at all under "notes" and those few that did merely listed the call number or microfiche number. But I appreciate your kind answer and the possibility that it may come under vote.

  • my point, although I see I didn't make it clear at all, was that there wasn't anything listed under "notes" or "subjects." For every item I looked at, and there were dozens and dozens, the subject line was just an extended title, and under notes, there was mostly nothing listed, or if there was something, it was only a call number or a page in the book or a microfiche number. It would be different if requesting the books was a free service, and I'm not complaining about the fee, but $5.50 is a LOT of money to order something that ends up being useless, especially, when there are 20 books/microfiche that could potentially be helpful but you have no way of knowing in advance. Thanks for your response - maybe it will get voted on!! :)
