The Pilot search interface and filtering are what we want. Produces much better results. Please keep pilot.

Will there eventually be a way to browse by location or by individual records instead of needing to search through so many records that are not even close to the requested search locations, dates or needed records.

I always go to the old site and use IGI primarily. It is so useful -- bringing up an entire page or more of near-matches and with lots of ways to narrow my choices so that the number of results is manageable. So why o why when I now select a baptism batch (or marriage), do you make it connect to the wretchedly awful new site? PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD FORMATS.

The new website is repetitive - the same entries come up in every possible format (by name of the baptized, by father of the baptized, and frequently twice or more each), there is minimal info. on the first page, so you have to click on everything to find out if it might be relevant, and there are only a few entries per page, so it takes ages to page through all this superfluous material.

Also, very often when I click on a batch, it now tells me the very name that got me there is not in that batch. Ludicrous. e.g. C033172 - Mary Hawksworth bap. Lancashire 1802. Click on C033172 and re-enter Hawksworth, and you will see it tells you there are no Hawksworth in that batch. Huh?

The website, like the Ancestry website which is going the same way, is becoming virtually useless and hideously frustrating.

Please, someone, switch it back and leave it alone until you find a better way.

Please bring back the old pilot and record search. We need the ability to refine a search by adding a spouse name when looking for birth, marriage and death records. This worked quite well in the old search. I was able to find tons of resords this way. Now I find this new search virtually impossible. What were you trying to fix? This is not an improvement. It is fraught with the same problems of Ancestry who seems to think more is better. Not so. Specific and to the point is way better.
Is this still being considerd after a year? When will you really listen to us?

The new Results interface rolled out today is much too complex, confusing and complex. What problem was so great that this level of complexity was required to fix it. Roll back to the previous version please.

I agree that the Pilot search was much better at producing results. I've been using the Beta search since the Pilot search was dropped, and I am very unhappy with the Beta. Records that were easy to find in the Pilot seem to be impossible to find in the Beta search. I don't know if these records were lost going from Pilot to Beta, or if the Beta is just not as good. I do know that my family research is suffering because of the change and really want to see the Pilot search return. Like grandpa always said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

It was wonderful to do research using your pilot and records search that was previously offered. The new database is a nightmare. The effective filters you had previously are no longer available and we are left to thrash around through useless data hoping to find someting by accident. For example, where can you enter a spouse name to narrow down a search for a marriage, death, or birth record? In the old search, this would allow you to look for your person of interest in all of those records, leaving out the unwanted litter. I just want to weep with dissapointment and frustration. The person who developed this apparently thinks more is better and know nothing aboout doing genealogy research.

Please return to the Pilot search, I have been using your new Beta search and it is not producing good results. Also, the Beta search cannot or will not produce the same records that I found in the Pilot search. Have these records been lost or is the new Beta Search that bad? Please return to Pilot so I can get on with my families research, Thank You.

Please bring back the the old pilot search. The new search is ridiculous, I cannot even find things that were previously there. "If something aint broke, don't fix it" The pilot worked extremely well, and I was able to find important things that the names were slaughtered by searching by initials etc. I hope you are seriously condsidering bringing it back

The old pilot search gave me much better results for the area of England that I am researching. Please consider bringing it back. The new method brought up thousands of hits that meant nothing to me.

Like a lot of other users, above, I feel very frustrated with the new site and although I have given it a good a good going over, I frequently get info. totally irrelevant to my searchings. The old FS site enabled me to search by countries, counties and within a range of years for England whereas I'm
given a whole lot, sometimes, of entries that I have no wish for.
    I have re-iterate "julies" reply;

While we are talking about the old pilot search, I sincerely wish the original 1880 LDS census (the best ever created) would become available to us researchers. It is there, as I found it by accident, but then I was blocked from using it. Why? Please be forthright in your reply.

  • I’m still puzzled
    1
I've been using www.familysearch.org since Pilot was shut down. I use it extensively--I'm on it almost daily, in fact. And you know what? I still miss the old Pilot site! Specifically, I miss:

    1. Quick, easy, filtering, getting as granular as I need to (down to the first letter of the person's name!) On familysearch, I can't even filter out marriage records, for example; birth, marriage and death are all lumped together.
    2. Having the filter form always visible at the top of the page. The filter form on the side takes up valuable screen real estate, and it scrolls off the screen if I am scrolling through a long list of results!
    3. The compact, usable layout and simple navigation.

I am still puzzled as to why the decision was made to abandon Pilot's elegant, highly usable design. It can't have anything to do with changes to the back end--you can pretty much attach any web page design to the back-end database.

On the new site, it takes me longer to do the same types of searches, some granular searches can't even be done, and the results are not nearly as focused.

Why throw a good thing away?

Hey, you know what would be REALLY cool? For FamilySearch to do A/B testing for Pilot and the new site (if they haven't already done so). Might provide some helpful insights...

has anyone had any possitive feed back from these sugestions? as every question i have asked ,the only response has been 'please be patient, the project is not fully complete' or they give me a link which just tells me how to use the site (as it is). I really miss using the pilot site, and try as i may cannot find any of the previous functions.I know this site is free but it's like being given a taste of something u really like, then told u will never taste it again.oh,they also told me the pilot site will not be coming back. Why did they ruin something that was so good and functioned so much better than this new site? And why is nobody listening?????

Bring back pilot. It was easier to manage, Also i can't make sense of this new way to make copies of documents whiich i have accessed. Copies are distorted, lack clarity and there is no explanation of the copying precedure. I have tried Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. Can not get a good copy of anything. Was once able to get a reasonably good or excellent copy for same documents before this change. also miss pilot for other reasons including my ability to trace my ancestors back before the year 1200. Can this be changed back and will it be changed back? I am, however, appreciative of Family Search efforts over the many years, but I need to know how to get the data which is now closed to me and to be able to make readable copies
