I’m wasting my time clicking and scrolling

New sources tab - dragging sources to rearrange scrolls to the bottom of the list when dragging, but won't scroll to the top.

When I am in the sources tab, and I've clicked on "sort sources" so that I can custom order my sources, when I try to drag a source to the top of the page, it won't scroll up, so I have to drop the source, scroll up, then pick it up again to move it up more. Since there is now so much white space and the sources take so much room, it can take me 4 or more times of dragging and dropping to get something to the top.

If I am moving something down the list, it works great, I just move to the bottom and the page scrolls down and I can drop it where I want it.

Is FamilySearch actually working on a fix as they say to keep our preferred source order, if we want to group other than chronologically? Every time I refresh the source page, (I add a lot of sources from external websites using RecordSeek so I have to refresh after each addition) I still have to click on the "sort sources" then "custom order" again. I hope this isn't one of those things they say they are going to fix, and then never do.

  • To get the sources list to scroll up, you need to drag the source all the way up, past the top of the sources section, into the person's summary bar above the blue or pink line. Hold your source there until the top of the source list comes into view, then move the source down and into the desired position.

Here's a screencap of me dragging a WikiTree link from the bottom of the list to the top:
My cursor was approximately where the "+add" bit is above "1875" at the top of the image.

  • Thank you (again) Juli for explaining this here and in another thread. However, I find it nowhere near as easy to move sources to the top of the list as to the bottom and hope something can be done to improve this.

  • This is a little off topic, and I don't know if this is still the case or not, but I have occasionally ran into the situation where I was trying to move the very last list item up in the list somewhere, and for some reason it just wouldn't move. In those cases I would go to the NEXT TO LAST item in the list and move it to the bottom. Then the original item I wanted to move is no longer at the bottom of the list, and I would have no problem moving it.

  • Thanks! Apparently I was just stopping too soon. I was dragging it up above the list, but not far enough. I agree with Paul, I hope something can be done to improve moving sources up so it works as well as it does when moving one down in the list.
