Notifcations for Deceased "Living" People

I'd like a feature where familysearch suggests death records for people that I have entered in as living, but I either haven't had a chance to return to, or don't know if/when they've died.

Every once in a while, I'll look over past research and realize someone has made a deceased entry for someone I entered as living years ago who has since died.

Since I'm the only one who can view "my" Living relatives, I'd like a place to click, where I can see all my "living" entries, and recently deceased records that may match my "living" relatives are suggested.

  • First, welcome to the community support forum for FamilySearch. FamilySearch personnel read every discussion thread and may or may not respond as their time permits. We all share an active interest in using the resources of this site and as users, we have various levels of knowledge and experience and do our best to help each other with concerns, issues, and/or questions.

Privacy laws are such that at the present time, no hints are provided, which would include death notices.

What irritates me about the "living" records in my "private space" is that I cannot search to see all of them. This has been brought up in the past.

As a result, I don't use FamilySearch as a repository for my living relatives. Despite claims to the contrary by Ron Tanner (The Family History Guy) and others, FamilySearch FamilyTree is a horrible place to enter records for living relatives. As a result, I recommend to only enter sufficient place keeper (names) to join your record with your ancestral lines.

I keep all of my living relatives in my local database, which is one of the three fully certified family tree management programs found in the Solutions Gallery. The free version works for many people.

Hints are showing now on living people. So if someone you entered as living shows in a database of obituaries, death records, or cemetery records a hint will appear on the Family Tree record for that person. I don't know if these show up on you Recommended Tasks list, however.
