Ohio Tax Record Collection Indexing Problems

Ohio Tax Records Indexing Problems

These records are not correctly indexed, perhaps the result of the way the images were batched and sent out for indexing.

For example. the page numbers of the images in the Belmont County tax book are out of order and there are multiple variant listings for the same township (some of them misspellings). For example, “Goshen” for 1827 has five images which consist of page numbers, 34, 35, 46, 47, and 52. Pages 32-33, 36-45, 48-53 are indexed under “Goshen Township.” Page 52 in imaged in both places. Other townships have similar problems - there is some significant cleanup needed on these records before they are useable.
