Omission of foreign language translation of library item description

I find that when searching foreign language sources in the new library catalog beta, the English language description of a foreign language source has been omitted. This looks to be a significant omission. Is there a reason the English language description has not been included?

  • Dear Mr. Rogers. I checked with the Catalog department of the Family History Library. He stated that in the 1970's a decision was made that the records would be collected internationally. The title of the work and the description is in the language of the record produced by the author of the document. Within the "Notes" and/or "Summary" of the catalog listing should be record information in English. Through wiki.familysearch.org there are article's for genealogical words and translations for numerous languages throughout the world. Also, the search engines, like Google.com, Yahoo.com and Bing.com have translation resources. We use "Tradukka" and have great success.
    I hope this is helpful.
