PLEASE change the system updates on your website to another weekday morning besides Monday.

PLEASE oh PLEASE do not update your site early Monday mornings! I often do family history work on Sunday evenings, well into the morning. It's my favorite activity to do on the Sabbath. I don't go to bed until 5:00 or 6:00 a.m., so those updates cut into a big portion of my time that I have available. Can you maybe change them to another weekday? Please??

No matter when the site is updated, it will disrupt someone who happens to be working on the site. That's one of the problems with an international site that is involved with the most popular hobby (that is legal) on the internet.

The interruption is usually short, less then an hour, but with all the changes that need to take place to fix problems that occur with new code, interruptions are going to happen. Early Monday has always been the best time with the least number of users impacted, no matter what system is involved, including corporate systems.

I know this is frustrating, but I note the time and then go work on something else, if I am up and working on my computer. I'll spend time on ancestry and update my local database with all the records that they produce, or start prowling the internet, looking for an elusive newspaper obit or death notice that I haven't been able to find.

But that is one of the advantages of not depending solely on FamilySearch for maintaining a tree (or, in the case of FamilySearch, my portion of the tree of mankind).

  • Unfortunately from 12 to 4am on Monday morning is the only time we have that we can take the system off line without taking the temples off line. We don't do this very often - only when we have to update a data base or some significant part of the system.

    Sorry...
