I’m delighted for such a great idea! "Please sir, we'd like some more"

Please Sir, we'd like some more: Make existing COLLECTIONS of Knowledge Articles accessible

In the fast-changing environment of FamiySearch and Family Tree, the Knowledge Articles tend to be the one set of documentation which race to stay up to date.

FamilySearch service missionaries have access to collections of Knowledge Articles arranged BY TOPIC. For example, collections sorted BY TOPIC include the Knowledge Articles about Family Tree, Mobile Apps, Family Tree Lite, Using the FamilySearch Website, Memories, Legacy Products, and others. These are not currently findable from the Help Center. Patrons would be enormously benefitted by these wonderful SOP Knowledge Articles! This is a request these collections, called "SOP" articles be made accessible via the Help Center. Yes it may require a bit of editing to include only KA's that apply to FamilySearch Family Tree users, but the work is 95% done and they would be ever so helpful to Family Tree users.

At the least, these SOP KA collections will pull poor, shivering under-informed users (which is most of us) into the ballpark, giving them a better idea of even what is POSSIBLE. KA's are not the most digestible form of user documentation, being longish reads, but they are excellent resources, for both the initiated and the uninitiated!

This will also help bypass the obsolete, 20th century search engine used for searching KA's. Please sir, could this be added to the "we'd like some more" list?

  • I fully agree, groupings were available previously on the Help pages and it was far more helpful that way.

  • I would be interested in which articles you believe you cannot see in the help center. It is my understanding that ll articles are there. What sort of topic search do you believe support personnel have.

I do admit that the current search engine is a nightmare. Search is like "black magic" -- you have to guess the correct term frequently to find the article

'Yes', you are correct, all (well, all; except, those that may have become redundant; and, subsequently, "Deleted") "Knowledge Articles" are there somewhere in "FamilySearch"; but, NOT all (current) "Knowledge Articles" are accessible by ALL Users/Patrons. Best example, non-member Users/Patrons, do not need; or, have access to, "Knowledge Articles" (or, specific 'Information' in "Knowledge Articles") pertaining/relating to "Temple" Work.

Even Member Users/Patrons do not have access to ALL "Knowledge Articles".

And, there are "Knowledge Articles" that are only available to 'Support' Missionaries/Personnel (and the like), to do their work/job.

With a new "Calling", I all of a sudden have access to "Knowledge Articles" that I did not have access to previously; certainly, nothing 'secretive', just you really need to be called/working in that area to need these articles.

And, 'Yes', you are also correct about the current "Search" engine in the "Help" (or, as has been 'coined' in this Forum, "helpLESS") of "FamilySearch".
