I’m Disappointed

Printing search results

Regarding the printing of search results ... In the pilot version, the individual search results summary page is scaled to print on one page and has a very neat, professional look. I like this. Unfortunately, the beta version print is just a "print screen" that results in a much larger print size which runs over onto two pages with no way of scaling it back to one page. I don't like this. I would suggest going back to the much more professional looking pilot version for printing individual summary results.

  • The ability to print out a list of the library catalog results would be nice so that I don't have to go into each specific source and print all of the details

I help at an FHC (3334430) and what we are missing is the ability for a patron to print the list of their search results to take home to compare with their documents. Corollary would be the ability to save to a jump drive. many of our patrons have given up internet at home because of the expense. They have their records on a home computer or in family bibles and notebooks. However, they do not want to have to print every record returned on a search for speculation (this becomes very expensive). They need the ability to easily(one click) print or save the results of their search, not just an individual record.
The previous format with results that used 2 lines meant they could get a list of about 25+ results on a page. The new format 'wastes' many vertical lines.
This is also a problem for those patrons with arthritus as the continous need to scroll can be difficult and the vertical wastage makes it necessary.
As screens are shifted to widescreen format, even fewer results are visible at one time.
    SO what's needed is
1.a format that allows viewing more results without scrolling,
2/.the ability to print the search results as a whole in the fewest number of pages possible
    and
    3. the ability to save the search results in an easily used format (.doc,.xls, .ged etc - not as an html file - the computer occassional users don't do well with that.)
The old site did have this functionality for the most part - and it is needed - esp at FHCs where a many of our patrons DO NOT have 24/7 access to computers and the internet and so need to rely on paper
If this ability already exists - our staff hasn't been able to find it. Ten cents to print one list of results is affordable - three dollars for each result separately may not be
