I’m confused

results don't match query- Connectiucut births

While searching the Connecticut Births advanced search when I entered the first name of the father, all the entries it came up with were entries with only a spouse listed. When I entered the first name of a spouse, it only came up with entries that listed parents. The surname I was using was Herbert and the first name I used was Alfred, no surname in either spouse or parent. This seems backwards, and/or wrong.
