Revert Back: Please RETURN Whole page/screen 'Banner' of PERMISSION REQUIRED at Top of ORDINANCE 'Tab' where such permission is required

FamilySearch

Reversion:

Please 'Return' (ie. Revert Back to) the Whole page/screen 'Banner' of "Permission Required" at the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) where such permission is required for any "Ordinance".

The aforementioned Whole page/screen 'Banner' of "Permission Required" at the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) was in place prior to the up-load/release of the new Design format of the "Person / Details" page/screen of 5/6 September 2018.

'Thank You' in advance.

  • Brett, you do remember that we were specifically told the day or of day after the introduction of the new user interface that FamilySearch would not be reverting any part of the new user interface back to the previous interface.

I really see no reason for bringing back the banner. After all, if one wants to reserve the ordinance for a person who was born less than 110 years ago, the system clearly indicates that permission is required.

Clicking on any of the Request Permission or Request (permission required) opens up a small flyout.

Clicking on Show Details provides additional information about what is required.

Clicking on Request Permission then opens the form and at the bottom are some important details that were never part of the banner, specifically "FamilySearch reserves the right to contact the person giving permission, if necessary."

In my opinion, the banner is no longer needed, given that the steps are very clear as to what has to be done.

Of course, you can differ, and that's fine. To me, everything is fine the way it is and besides, we were told in no uncertain terms that FamilySearch would not revert back to the previous interface.

I have my opinion; and, you have your opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; and, can be heard.

Personally, I do not care how many times the "Message" appears.

As far as I am concerned, the 'more the merrier'.

And, as far as the Images of the "Messages" that you have posted: WHY do Users/Patrons have to 'Select'/'Click' to see such "Messages".

If the "Message" was a 'Banner' at the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) where such permission is required for any "Ordinance"; then, there would be NO need to 'Select'/'Click' to see such "Messages". As far as I am concerned, having to 'Select'/'Click' to see such "Messages" is unnecessary extra work.

I am not saying that the actual "Text" of the "Message" for "Permission Required" does not need up-dating; but, in essence, I again, strongly advocate that the Whole page/screen 'Banner' of "Permission Required" SHOULD be RETURNED to the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) where such permission is required for any "Ordinance".

Hence, my request to 'Return' (ie. Revert Back to) the Whole page/screen 'Banner' of "Permission Required" SHOULD be RETURNED to the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) where such permission is required for any "Ordinance", NOTHING to do with 'Returning' (ie. Reverting Back to) the whole STATE of the affairs prior to the up-load/release of the new Design format of the "Person / Details" page/screen of 5/6 September 2018 - UNFORTUNATELY, that is "Dead" and "Buried" (please excuse the pun), whether we like it or not (and, many still do not).

  • Brett, what part of "we were specifically told the day or of day after the introduction of the new user interface that FamilySearch would not be reverting any part of the new user interface back to the previous interface" do you not understand?

What do you not understand with this post of mine?

This post is NOT requesting the return of the the old interface from prior to the up-load/release of the 5/6 September 2018, UNFORTUNATELY, that is "Dead" and "Buried", whether we like it or not (and, many still do not).

This post is requesting the return of the Whole page/screen 'Banner' of "Permission Required" at the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) where such permission is required for any "Ordinance".

The reason for this is request is to dispense with the need for the unnecessary extra work to 'Select'/'Click' to see such "Messages" on the Images that you have posted.

Of course, the actual "Text" of the "Message" for "Permission Required" could to with up-dating.

Please leave this request of mine to stand, as is.

    'Thank You'.

    • You did not respond, Brett. FamilySearch was very clear and explicit that they would not be rolling back the update.

You apparently want to ignore what we were told and insist that they do what you want them to do.

I'm just trying to tell you that they have moved beyond any rollback, just as FamilySearch moved beyond the mess they made of the old Help Center, which turned it into a helpLESS center where one has to still guess at the correct keyword(s) to find what they want (it is getting better, but it was still frustrating).

I don't control whether or not a request of anyone stands or not. Neither do you, but I am telling you that you are likely not going to get 'your way" in this matter because of what we were told the day or or day after the rollout took place.

  • Please keep your ideas coming.  That September rollout touched lots of things. Since then many items and concerns raised here have been resolved and corrected.

There is no way to know what will be addressed or not. It may be delayed but if there is a serious problem things can be "rolled back." I know of many many rollbacks and feature mis-steps that had to be addressed. The beauty of software is you can always make it better so don't be afraid to raise an issue by providing straight-forward examples of what's broken and ways to address it.
    • I can appreciate that, but in this case, and I don't have a problem with Brett bringing up these things, there is no problem in my opinion.

The screen shots really say it all and as such, the banner -- again, in my opinion -- would be a waste. "Permission Required" provides the basic information and clicking on that provides the details. Any member familiar at all with the 110-year rule (which has been around for a very long time) is going to know what permission is required.

What I appreciate is that now everything is spelled out in detail, something that the banner could not do before. There are no questions about who needs to provide that permission and that FamilySearch may contact the person to verify that permission really was given.

The problem that this resolves is one that has come up a number of times with people complaining about others (usually also members) doing their family's vicarious ordinances without their permission. The details spell out what the relationship has to be.

'Thank You' so very much for joining in on this post of mine.

I hope you realise that my post is NOT about "Reverting" back to old "User Interface" of the "Person/Details" page/screen prior to 5/6 September 2018 (Although, I am one of those ones who would not say, 'No'!).

    But ...

Simply putting a Whole page/screen 'Banner' of "Permission Required" at the Top of the "Ordinance" 'Tab' (page/screen) where such permission is required for any "Ordinance"; maybe, with up-dated "Text"; so as, to dispense with the need for the unnecessary extra work to 'Selecting'/'Clicking' to see such "Messages" on the Images that have been posted above, by 'Tom'.

    'Thank You' in advance.

    • Funny. You ironically wrote, "I hope you realise that my post is NOT about "Reverting" back..." and yet the title you wrote says, "Revert Back: Please RETURN Whole page/screen 'Banner'..."

That makes it a little hard to tell what you really want. To revert back, but you don't really mean that, or to post a banner (updated, of course) at the top of the Ordinance page for those "requiring permission" (not that that isn't said a number of times already on the page).

Instead of repeating yourself and changing what you are asking for, provide us (and FamilySearch) with suggested wording for the banner that you want (brought back or just see???).

      That should be simple.
    • It will also give FamilySearch a starting place for putting together an approved banner.
