Searching catalog by film or call number doesn't work if pasted value has leading or trailing spaces

When searching the catalog by film or call number, I often copy and paste the number from another document, which sometimes adds an extra space, since I just double click to select the number. However, FamilySearch gives an error that the number can only be so long. Then I realize what I did and delete the extra space, or sometimes remember to delete it ahead of time. However, some users who are not as savvy may not realize why the search failed. I know the form validation is in place to protect against buffer overflows, but it would be fairly simple to strip any leading or trailing whitespace from the input when the form is submitted. It could be done in one line of JavaScript using the String method trim.
