The FamilySearch site is now back online.

Do we know or can we get a report on whether the update was successful and if it was, what was changed?

In particular, did this update finally sever new.FamilySearch from FamilySearch Family Tree records?

  • One thing I am seeing is that the "Latest Changes" section of Person page shows the few most recent changes, and in my case it is showing lots of "Source Reason Changed" by me when I did not change the source reason. I am not certain but it may be indicating that I dragged the order of the sources up or down so the order is chronological. I was not expecting that to appear in change log.

When we moved to the new database we did a reconciliation to make sure the correct information was in the change log, since we did not always record everything at the beginning of Family Tree. These appeared because the change was made but never made it properly into the change log. We could not put in the exact date for all missing changes, but we felt it was more important to have it there than to leave it out.

You have not answered the question put by Tom (above / below), which I am sure is in the mind of most regular patrons of this forum:

"In particular, did this update finally sever new.FamilySearch from FamilySearch Family Tree records?"

Beforehand, I never saw it expressed clearly that this would happen, so can you confirm whether this major update has / hasn't been effective in this respect?

Yes this upgrade resulted in us no longer synchronizing with new.familysearch.org. Merging of IOUSs should be possible for most persons. There are some restrictions we had to put in place for those with lots of relationships, etc. You will soon see exactly why a merge cannot be done and then you can go an fix the person and then merge. For example we will only currently allow 1000 memories on a person. This and other limits will be exposed and adjusted as needed. We have some more coding to go to complete the other features we can now do because of the cut from nFS.

    • Hi Tom. Sorry to contradict you but following you closely on most of your very sharp posts on this forum, I believe you will be happier the day the function to correct FS records will have been implemented... ;-)
By the way Ron, hats off to all the engineers. That was flawless the least to say!!!
    • Off-topic, but yes. Joe asked for someone to put together how they would see correcting badly indexed records would work with example screens. That's the purpose of that thread that I started.

Right now, if I read Joe Martel's comments correctly, there is some debate on how and to what extent patrons could make changes to the index. There are, as he correctly said, many issues and some are quite complex.

Having spent my entire life in the virtually all aspects of the computer industry, there is a lot involved, especially with the various types of indexed errors that one can encounter. Each of those needs to be examined for a reasonable procedure to use.

Regardless, what I have been posting is in response to a request from Joe he provided in an earlier discussion.
