  • Welcome to the FamilySearch public discussion boards where we users can help each other with such questions.

One best place to start learning how to work in Family Tree is The Family History Guide at: https://www.thefhguide.com/

Another best place is to call your local Temple and Family History consultants to come by your house and help you get started. Even if you are not LDS, you live in a ward or branch of the Church. Just contact the local LDS Bishop or Branch President and ask him for the contact information for your consultants. I'm am sure they would be thrilled to meet with you.

A third best place is to go to your local Family History Center if there is one near you. From the Help menu in the upper right hand corner, click on Contact Us.

Then enter your location the the Find A Family History Center search box and click Find:

Click on one of the green dots on the map to get the address of that center:

The other important thing to do is to realize that when you are on a Family Tree page, 95% of what you see is a clickable link to do something. I would encourage you to just start clicking on everything you see and learn what happens.

For example, when you first come to a person's detail page, the name looks like this:

Click on the name and it changes to this:

Once again, almost everything here is clickable. Click on Edit to get this:

Edit the name, enter a Reason Statement as to why you made the change, then click Save. Then be sure to enter a source for your change. Every change really, really, really needs a source.

If you have a specific question about how to fix one particular problem, post the details here with the ID number for the person and many people will be glad to give suggestions.

  • As I said yesterday all you need to do is go to individual records of person who you state is wrong then click on remove next open up search then what you know about person re enter it save and then you are done if the person is no relation to you or family member then just leave blank until you find what details you need , the worse thing I find is that if you share don't forget to note names of people who you share with otherwise others get in and what you have thy feel they have rights to correct but to avoid go into download and add VIP browser site when researching use this then others can't get in and alter your records , good luck Steve
