Would help with indexing and translation of hand written records in Portuguese

I have been researching my family tree through local handwritten records in small towns in Portugal available online. Rather than just helping with the records that are available for indexing, that most people could do. I would be willing to translate and index these records.

  • For records to be indexed, certain criteria must be met. Most importantly, the record owners must agree. The records need to be high enough priority for FS to devote resources to their indexing, and there needs to be a sufficient number to form a "Project" and sufficient indexers.

It would help if you were more specific about which records you would like indexed. Then the FS Staff who read this forum will know about the interest in having them indexed.

If you are willing to volunteer, why not do so yourself, independently of FS? I personally made my own website: https://sallandsdtb.wordpress.com/ with transcriptions. My site is linked to the well known https://www.geneaknowhow.net/digi/bro... and thus attracts many users each week.

  • Good point. I have been getting "additions" to my tree that are inaccurate because todate only records from certain areas in Portugal are available on this site and so many names are the same. Tombo.pt is the site I've been using with great success. The copies of the records are often of poor quality and the handwriting difficult to read but after sharing with family members who say they cannot decipher anything, I realized I'm pretty good at getting the pertinent info from the records. I'll look into other avenues, thanks.
