Okay, so finally feedly works on Chrome, but I can't seem to change the colors in preferences- any ideas?

You can supposedly change the Read and Unread links colors, but it doesn't actually work! And the most important one (in my mind, anyhow) is the background, and that's not even an option right now.

I'm seeing the same thing in FireFox 3.6 (Mac). I miss my black background...

try this:

body { background-color: rgb(33,33,33) !important;}
#feedlytabs .tab .selected, .toprecommendedentry, .area, .u1entry { background-color: rgb(192,192,192) !important;}
#feedlybackpart { background-color: rgb(160,160,160) !important;}
#feedlyCenter { background-color: rgb(40,40,40) !important;}
.entryholder { background-color: rgb(220,220,220) !important;}
.pagesectiondelimiter { color: Gray !important;}

I love Feedly. But this color problem is even more basic than the previous postings suggest: I cannot tell as I scroll from unopened item to unopened item EVEN WHICH ITEM I AM SCROLLING ON, since the color does not change when the item is selected. Only if I open the item ("O") can I see where I am navigating on the page. It's very annoying.

I know this thread is from a year ago but I am having the same problem. The color difference between read and unread links is a teeeeny shade of blue. I can't tell what I have and haven't read! Is this fixed? If not, when?

Yes. Sorry. It is a regression in 5.1. A bug has been created to fix it for 6.0.
