Viewing the Oldest First

  • Question
  • Updated 1 year ago
Is there a way to view oldest first? In Google Reader I often read full view starting with the oldest first, and working my way to the newest. Is there any way to do this in Feedly? Will this be implemented?

Hello PowerLlama,
There is no way in feedly to do that. Sorry. I am not sure at this point if we will be implementing that. It will very much depend on how many users ask for it. Would you consider yourself and RSS power user?

This is the most fundamental feature of a feed reader. The default order should be oldest first.

I also would like a per-feed option to view unread articles in reverse order. This would be great for conversation-type blogs.

I'd say uhh maybe? Haha, I'm not sure. I read a lot of feeds though. I guess it's not that big of a deal, it's just what I'm used to on greader.

Another thing I like on greader more is how the spacebar is used in the full post mode. If there's more to the post you're reading on the screen, it goes down a page, not automatically to the next post like J does.

I'd also like to read in reverse order...especially if I have a backlog of posts to catch up on...

Absolutely. I can't continue using feedly until it implements oldest first feed reading, which is a feature I love about Google's reader. Besides, would it be that difficult?

understood. This is really high on our list. We need to wrap some things up during the next two weeks but will look into this right after that. Thanks for taking the time to submit your feedback!

I know you've said it's high on your list, but I just want to add my vote. Oldest first is crucial to the way I read feeds.

Thanks for a great tool that is only going to get better.

emmit: it is still one of our top priorities...we just got caught in a massive refactoring and are going to need another couple of weeks before we get our head out of the water! Will update this thread as soon as I have more information.

Just wanted to reiterate that this would make feedly much more usable for me (and, I hope, others). Has there been any progress on this? Is it still on the list?

Any update is appreciated.

Thanks.

Rob. It is still on the list. I will try to see if we can include this for the feedly 2 release which will go out the first week of dec. If not it will be right after that.

Yes. Thanks for the input. It is definitely in the roadmap (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?ke...) and we understand that this is something people care about a lot.

Nudge, nudge - count me as another vote for getting this feature rolled out - otherwise you have a really nice app - one feature away from perfect.

I have this problem too. It's difficult to follow webcomics starting from the last one and going backwards, all sense of continuity is lost.

Yeah, I agree. This is one of the reasons I have gone back to Google Reader.

@ Edwk, 8 months ago you wrote "Rob: We have started to work on this. We should be able to pull it off by Tuesday I think.". When do you think you will be able to add this feature?

I LOVE Feedly; however, I also would like to have the option to view oldest feeds first. If I get a day behind I like to view the oldest ones; I wanna see the original post before I get to the follow-up. PLEASE ADD THIS FEATURE! Thanks!

The 1.2.276 patch we will be pushing out tonight will include a check box to let you define at the category and feed level if the articles should be sorted by the latest or oldest first. You should see this in your feedly if you restart firefox tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry it took so long

Dear all,
I need to have oldest first especially in saved articles. I used it as a "to read" list, and it's fundamental to start from oldest.
I will use google reader for these reasons: this one I have described above, and beacause it's impossible to send email directly from feedly (I'm able to do correctly in greader).
Feedly is really a great products, but I need these features.

best regards,

Andrea

Email should be working. Based on the other thread I assume it is. Regarding being able to see oldest first for saved for later, I will try to see what I can do.

Hi edwk,
email does not work.
Also greader does not have sorting for saved for later, but I integrate "read it later" (http://readitlaterlist.com/) with greader and I have what I need.

Best regards,

Andrea

Hi edwk, I'm looking also for the oldest first option.
I cannot find in my feedly the check-box you're speaking about (cannot reproduce what you show in the picture)

Can you help ?

Go to a feed page and click the little pencil icon on the top next to the search box. There is a check box in the menu.
