If I want to watch a movie on the go, being required to have wi-fi is RIDICULOUS!

This is more of a complaint, but since it isn't a current functionality, I felt it should be placed under ideas.

The UltraViolet copy idea was interesting. I no longer have to sync whatever movie I think I may want to watch to my phone and take up valuable space. Instead, Flixster will store it in their cloud and allow me to access it at anytime.

The downfall was when I went to try it out and got a message that stated I must have a Wi-Fi connection to view the movie. That is completely asinine!

Okay, so if I'm on the go, I must go to a McDonald's, Starbucks, Panera, or other location to get access to free Wi-Fi? I have to sit there the whole time?

What if you have kids and they want to watch a movie while in the car?

Say you have a horrendous family get-together you are going to and want to have some entertainment? You have to go up to your relative and say, "Hey, can I get your router password?"

My point is, while there are Wi-Fi hot-spots on-the-go, what is the true likelihood that you will have Wi-Fi access the entire time you wish to watch the movie? It would be better if you could utilize your 3G/4G access to view them. An additional suggestion would be to be able to download the movie temporarily to your phone so that way you don't have to have an internet connection the entire time.

I'm sorry, while the idea is good in theory, I'm incredibly bitter thinking that I will never be able to utilize my Harry Potter digital copy when it comes out next week. I would SO much rather have an iTunes copy at this point.

Sincerely,
A person who has an unlimited data plan who never utilizes Wi-Fi on her phone

Hi Natalie - no one will help me with my problem - do you know how I can get my ratings back that flixster has lost? (or failing this, how I can transfer to the imdb).

let me know!

thanks

Have to concur with Stephanie. I like to watch movies on my MacBook Pro or iPad while flying on trips. This system completely negates this ability. I have WiFi at home, but then, I'd watch the movie on my 42" off a blu-ray disc rather than the 15" computer screen, so no advantage for it there.

So, can't watch a UV flick on a plane, in a car, at a friend's that doesn't have wifi or in a hotel that doesn't offer wifi and have to stay in one place to stay connected to a WiFi network. May have to pay again to hook up to hotel or other WiFi network to watch a movie I already paid for. Kinda takes the mobile out of mobile devices.

Until this can be done off line, I will pay iTunes rather than buy a UV copy.

Poorly thought out.

Hello All -

Good news! We've just released iOS v5.0, which includes a download option. To download: update the app, then open it and sign into the account associated with your UltraViolet movies. On the Home tab (iPhone/iPod Touch) or My Movies tab (iPad), tap on the movie you want to download, then on the purple Download button.

Thank you all for your input – we hope you enjoy watching your movies offline.

Thanks Natalie. I downloaded the update this morning and downloaded my copy of Crazy Stupid Love just fine. It was done by the time I finished blow drying my hair. Only one question, if I delete it to make room, will I have issues redownloading it? I just want to make sure there isn't a limit to how many times I can download my digital copies as I'm sure to be maxing out my space in the near future.

Thanks flixster.. I was going to trade out all my dvds and go blu-ray, but since you guys wanted to screw it up where i cant download the digital copy that comes with it directly to my itunes where then i can put on my ipod if want! I just go back to buying regular dvds and buying straight from itunes!

To update the app, just go to the App Store (it's a blue icon on your iPhone or iPad) and tap on the far left tab. You'll see the option to update any app that has a newer version than the one currently on your device.

There is still a huge problem with the download for Ultraviolet. Not only does it take forever to download the digital copy to your device, after you delete it to make room for other stuff on the device you have to wait forever to reload the digital copy
back onto your device. Why can't there just be a download for the digital copy onto your itunes account and use the copy like every other digital copy ever made?

I don't get it either. I hate now that I have two different applications installed on my laptop to do the same thing. I've not been impressed with WB digital copies. Every time you turn around they are trying something different that makes the process so cumbersome. Plus they are really stringent on the expiration dates. I'm just gratefull that I can at least download them to my phone now. I can deal with having 2 different methods to watch my digital copies, I couldn't deal with the no options I had earlier in the week.

Deathly Hallows 1 was so much better, was able to download the digital copy to my iTunes and that was it, why they decided to do it this way was stupid....now the movies is going to be separated from all my other movies, and no, I'm not moving all of those over to Flixster, especially with all the problems I've been having with this one movie....

If you finished the download but it still wants the internet to play you're not doing it right. Force close the app (on an iPhone you have to double click the home button and then hold down on the app you want to close) and then reopen it to try again.

Lauren I'm having the same problem. Intentionally got the "digital" copy only to discover it was a UV copy, downloaded it onto the iPad2 intending for my son to watch it while we traveled. As long as I have wifi we can see "my movies" but the minute I turn the wifi off no movies. If I'd known this I'd have saved some money and just purchased it through iTunes.

Jonathan, I found that when I was wi-fi enabled my "downloaded" movie was available but when I turned my wi-fi off my "downloaded" movie now was no longer available. So, in my opinion there is something missing in the "download" if you have to have wi-fi to view it. I contacted Flixster & UV and requested an iTunes redemption code and downloaded to iTunes -- now we can watch even if we aren't wi-fi enabled.

Much more time consuming !!!.. Plus if you have downloaded the new "update to the flixster software on your Iphone guess what... you can not view a movie even if you have downloaded it. you get the message "Connect to a Wi-Fi network to watch this content." Their suggestion on the FAQ's page is to delete and re download.. That still does not work. I will work if you are connected to a wifi (It will run from the download)....

Didn't know you could contact them to get an iTunes redemption code....I will have to keep that in mind in case it stops working again. In the mean time...I let some time past, downloaded the app update and went back in and the movie was gone, had to re-download it, which I did, and now it works without wi-fi, however, I'm happy it's working (for the time being at least) but it was definitely not worth the time . . . I've learned my lesson and won't be buying anymore movies with a flixster/UV download - would much prefer iTunes

I have contacted them .. No offer of an ITunes code. As a matter of fact in the last corispondance they wrote "UltraViolet enabled movies are not compatible with iTunes which is why we can't provide iTunes downloads." I'm ready to throw in the towel and just give up completely. I have uninstalled and re downloaded everything too many times to count. Basically the told me too bad for you. Thanks for your response.

I am so frustrated with Flixster right now I could just scream!!. I have an Android...i spent the required 2 hours downloading my "digital copies" of two movies through Flixster and Ultraviolet and installed the Collections program to my computer then another 30 minutes to download one of the movies from the Flixster app in my phone just to find out that the downloaded movie is on my phone but will not play without a wifi connection. So after scouring these help files for another hour I saw this somewhere:
"Known Issue: the app says wifi is required to watch a movie I downloaded.
Last Updated: Jan 05, 2012 02:44PM PST
There was a known issue in app versions prior to 5.10 in which downloaded movies still required a wifi connection in certain circumstances. There is now a fix for this problem; it requires a fresh download"......guess what...the latest version of the app that I could find on the Android Market or Amazon App Store is 3.9.1.42. I downloaded the lastest version that I possibly could.
Can someone please tell me how to play these files on my phone without needing a wifi connection......pretty please!!!
HTC DINC2
Android version 2.3.4
BTW.....isn't there an email address for some kind of customer support for Flixster? If so, it is well hidden. I couldn't find it.

This "service" sucks! I don't want to store my digital movies on a cloud, I want to download them to my laptop so I can watch them whenever/wherever I want on something other than a 3" screen without having to have wi-fi.

I downloaded the only two digital copies that I have with Flixter to my Droid Incredible 2 as well as my Kindle Fire through the Flixster app and neither would play without wifi (even though i verified the downloaded MP4 files resided on the devices).
I emailed Ultraviolet support about the issue and, after providing them the two movie titles with the activation codes and my mailing address, they said they would send me CDs in the mail that had the digital copies in Itunes and Windows format. One of them came via email from them with a new activation code and a link to download it in those formats. I guess the other will be in the mail or a later email.
I'll end up getting them both eventually, but that's the last time I purchase a digital copy dvd set that has to go through Flixster/Ultraviolet (basically Warner Brothers' movies). Not worth the hassle IMO.

I can't watch any of the movies I downloaded on my laptop. When I try to play any of the 3 (Har Potter, Grn Lantern, or Horbl Bosses) it opens up my windows media player...the player says opening down at the bottom for 5 to 10 secs then says playing but never plays. No sound, no picture. Anyone have any suggestions?
