Auto Pick Up Patterns Problem

I am trying to use auto pick up and am having problems with sorting out how to form the patterns. My files will look something like this:
i.php?a=scenesNM&i=_DSC0666-1.jpg&s=400&q=85wmk=!

I have tried the pattern like this:
(i.php?a=scenesNM&i=)FILENAME(&s=400q=85wmk=!)_print.EXT
and this
(i.php?a=scenesNM&i=)FILENAME_print.EXT(&s=400q=85wmk=!)

The files in will be XXXXXXX.jpg in the above url.

Can anyone out there give me any clues if I can do (support says yes but since I am on the free plan they cannot help)?

thanks in advance

  • in the past I was told that anything after the ? gets dropped and auto pickup can not access those files.

  • Thanks Robert that would make sense except that Fotomoto can see the original file which looks like link above from the store and clicking on the original image which works ok.

A bit better clarification as to what the rules are from the designers sure would help. Documentation?

  • You should be using mod_rewrite anyway, so those URLs can be alot clearer..

    For example, you could make:

    i.php?a=scenesNM&i=_DSC0666-1.jpg&s=400&q=85wmk=!

    into something nicer, like

    www.yoursite.com/prints/scenes/nw/400...

This has the benefit of making it more readable, search engine friendly, and no more issues with stuff after the ? being dropped.

  • Travis that url is for the image not the page. mod_rewrite is already being used on the page but the url I have show is just for the image. I am using Zen Photo and that is how they end up creating the url for the image. For the page the url is

    mysite.com/NM/nameOfPicture.jpg.php

So I am still having the issue and your solution might work if I dig down into the code to sort out how they are creating the mod_rewrite for the image. Or Fotomoto could provide decent documentation and/or display the name of the file that they are searching for when you test to see if the image is available for auto pcikup.

  • you should just be able to create a .htaccess and make the rewriterule yourself, and then point fotomoto at your new 'nice' URL.

for example, my site is going to use www.dslrpics.com.au/pickup/blah.jpg
    which actually points to www.dslrpics.com.au/prints.php?file=b...

prints.php then checks if the image is actually allowed to be printed (according to my sites rules) and either allows the file download, or forces a redirect.

Unless I am missing something, the solution you need is a rewriterule. Well, one of the solutions.

I should add.. if ZenPhoto is using URLs like that, someone needs to slap them. they are _horrid_ and not search engine friendly at all. Even mysite.com/NM/nameOfPicture.jpg.php , while valid, is very ugly.

  • Travis while you rewrite idea is clever it will involve finding just the queries from fotomto and doing something cleaner with them. That will also involve writing code for insertion into the Zen Photo installation. For all others it works just fine and no need to seo for the image which I want to protect as well as I can in the first place.

Also as far as the Zen Photo url's that is just one portion of seo and they have many other features that make the pages very friendly to search. I could go in and name each of my images into a more seo friendly name but I choose to keep the names that I have in that they give me additional information about the images, when they were shot and how to find them on my machines.
