I’m frustrated

Can't add specific 12x36 to store

I seem to be unable to add Pano options to my store. I've got Crop To All Selected Sizes selected but still unable to add the size, specifically 12x36. What am I missing?

    Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your post and I'll be happy to help you get everything set up as desired.

First question - do you want to sell *only* specific sizes, forcing the user to crop the image to whichever print size they've selected? Just making sure, because if not then you might consider keeping the "Flexible Sizes" option. For an explanation of what each option means please see our Print Size Options article.

I thought I'd ask because given your current setup, if someone selects an 8"x8" the crop they're forced to do on a panoramic is pretty significant, and it might be better if Fotomoto just displayed the appropriate 8" width instead.

Please let me know on that before we move forward, and if you prefer you can feel free to email us at http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/... if you prefer not to troubleshoot in a public forum.

    Kind regards,
    Derek

  • Hi Derek -

Yes, I would like to keep it specific sizes, it makes it easier for people as they tend to want the usual print sizes (8x10, 5x7, 4x6, etc).

I was looking to add the pano options as I've had requests for those specific sizes.

    Hi Christopher,

OK, thank you for confirming. Let me look further in to your Dashboard and investigate why you're not seeing those pano sizes appear.

I'll post back when I've identified what's happening.

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Derek

    Hi Christopher,

Quick question - are you using any kind of "right-click" prevention mechanism that might be throwing an clear image overlay over the images?

Please let me know on that and I'm continuing to research on my end.

    Thanks,
    Derek

  • Hi Derek, Yes my theme has right-click protection enabled.

Does this impact adding the pano options?

    Hi Christopher,

Thank you for confirming. First, I have already put out a request to our engineering department to investigate what's happening on your site.

In the meantime I might suggest temporarily disabling the right-click protection mechanism to see if that fixes the problem. In short, depending on how that script works it may affect the ability of our Script to function as expected and detect the dimensions of the image you're trying to sell. This is just a hunch I have and may not be the issue, but I'd like to investigate further.

It's up to you of course if you want to enable right-click protection, but personally I never choose to use it because the only benefit is that it serves as a minor deterrent, and the costs are that a) it might interfere with page, browser and service functionality b) you might actually want some people to be able to copy the image (say to make a mockup of how it will look on their wall), and c) the additional script may add to your site's page load time. What I typically recommend is that you watermark the images. More on this subject at http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/...

That all said, let me know please if disabling the feature works, otherwise I'll keep you posted on what I hear from our engineering department.

    Thanks,
    Derek

  • Hi Derek - I disabled the right click and image drag protection and it still didn't work.

I am able to add and remove other sizes from the small / normal / large size tabs, with or without the right click and image drag protection. the issue only comes when I want to add Pano sizes.

    Hi Christopher,

Thanks for giving my potential fix a try, and sorry my hunch was wrong!

I've heard back from our engineering team, and have an official answer for you. When you have the Crop to all Selected Sizes option enabled, Fotomoto will not display panoramic print sizes unless the image itself is wide enough to be "panoramic" according to our definition, which I believe means a 5:2 aspect ratio or wider. In your case, for example the first image on the page you mentioned is 1.78:1, so it is wide, but not quite panoramic.

At first the above seems counter-intuitive because "Crop to all Selected Sizes" typically would show *all* enabled print sizes, but at the end of the day I think the rule makes sense, since our goal is to present buyers with the "best-fitting" print sizes for any given image as much as possible, so they won't be forced to dig around much to find print sizes that fit the image without cropping.

I do apologize that I didn't know about this rule off the top of my head, but frankly in the several years that I've been with Fotomoto, this use case has never come up.

Last, since your customers are asking for 12x36" prints, maybe you might consider posting a few images that are either shot at or cropped to the 3:1 aspect ratio...I am sure they would be quite dramatic and marketable, as panoramics have been very popular in recent years.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help here, otherwise thanks again for using Fotomoto and sorry again for any confusion - I will update our Support Center articles to make things more clear given the rule above.

    Kind regards,
    Derek
