Custom note to potential buyer?

Hello, I'd like to add some custom text to the initial purchase/preview screen. Can you make this possible? For me specifically... since my images are watermarked, I would like to add a note that any prints or cards would not have the watermark on them.

Thanks..

Is this a note in your website, or in the email that goes out to the customers?

A note on the fotomoto generated pop-up (Like where you have the note for cards that says "NOTE: You can customize the photo (front) and add a personalized message (back or inside).")

OK, now I see what you're saying. This might be useful.

    Thank you!

    • Hi Mark - Yes, I ended up doing a similar thing, though not on each individual page. I like the way you did it. - may copy your idea. Your gallery is lovely - what program did you use, or did you create it yourself?
    • Hi Jessica, I am glad you have everything working!
I use a PHP script (SGAL) which my web developer freind took over from the original creator. He has developed new programing for the gallery script and I create new template styles for the script.
You can view the main SGAL site on http://www.sgal.org and from that link you can go to our SGAL Lab site where we have examples of different templates.
It is a very nice and simple gallery written in PHP, no MySQL, an Admin back end and other options. Although there is a bit of PHP knowledge neede to use it but the SGAL Forum is a good resource.
I use it exclusively for my photography web site.

  • Thanks again Mark. I've downloaded the script for a future 're-do' of my site. It would be good not to have to have a duplicate gallery just for FM as I do now. Looking forward to seeing your new site when you go live with fotomoto.

  • Adam,

I just brought this up in a support email recently, as it doesn't look like Fotomoto has integrated this yet, but I support the idea for the following reason:

If a surfer is interested in buying a card/print of an image, but then notices that the image in the Fotomoto widget still contains the watermark as they are trying to make their purchase, they might back out of the purchase without any reassurance the watermark will not appear on their final product.

Of course we can always add a note on our own websites, or FAQ pages, but I think it would help increase sales conversions and keep surfers from being concerned, and possibly losing a sale to someone who might not want to take the time to read FAQ or bother sending an email to ask before making their purchase.

Fotomoto, is it possible to get a generic statement added to the widget that explains the watermark situation?

I recently contacted Fotomoto regarding this topic. I would also like to see a customizable line of text in the Fotomoto widget that a store owner could use to explain that the purchased image will not include a watermark. This would enable store owners to assuage purchasers' fears about watermarks without opening the Fotomoto widget up to massive customization. While we can add disclaimers to our websites, users will often want the reassurance of a statement visible in the purchasing window.

I'm looking for this feature too : watermarks are for us (we, photographers) our only way to protect the work we publish. I would tell customers that there are no watermarks on prints but my website template cannot provide such a visible information in the portfolio : it has to be visible for poeple who want to buy, and ONLY for them.
I think visitors would not appreciate self advertising, in some way.

For lack of answering, could you at least give us an estimate ? We know you have plenty of others features to provide, but this is a two years old (and minor) issue !
It's just adding a field in the admin to get more buyers.

There is the problem of multiples languages in widget also but this is an another topic.

    Kind regards ;)

      Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the comment; unfortunately I can't offer a timeline on when we might be able to release this. For now we recommend that you put a mention on your website that says "purchased prints are not watermarked", or something to that effect.

We regularly update these "Idea" posts when we release the requested feature, so be sure to "follow" the post to receive future updates.

      Thanks and....kind regards,
      Derek

I think this is of major importance, and even if a custom message box is not possible , at least a fixed message (as part of the widget) could exist, since it would probably apply to most photographers anyway. I doubt many post their images without a watermark.
There are many areas of the widget that remain blank at all times, in all windows, but here are just 3 possibilities.
I would personally prefer it right above the "Add to Cart" button, since it's more noticeable, and it's probably where most people place their watermarks anyway, but any place would be just fine.
Of course that having a check box in our settings that we can enable or disable "watermark disclaimer" would be a plus, but ...that could wait :)

    I echo Maria's request.
I hope to see this feature added in the near future.

This topic is 3 years old Yair.... and those about multiples languages even more !

I don't think they're quite involved in technical issues about the widget : why ? that's the question. As many of foreign users I'm satisfied enough with Fotomoto's services. But such topics make me dream about the day when a concurrent will come....

A satisfied user (maybe it's useful to remind it ^^).
    Cheers.

  • Hi all,

Just a reminder that our product team *is* listening, and aware of the request. I know it has been posted for a long time, but the thing to keep in mind here is that our team is very small and we have a large lot of things to do. The high priority feature requests do get done, and the lower priority ones do too, just much less frequently.

The best thing to do is make sure you give the idea a +1 so we can easily see what the majority of our sellers are asking for. In the meantime, the best workaround is to put the note to your customer on your website.

    Kind regards,
    Derek
