Customize Products / Product Description

Hey,

i'm owning the website www.spotcatch.net and i'm looking for a solution for selling my photos as prints via my website. A few days ago i discovered Fotomoto and i really like the way how Fotomoto is integrated to a website.

The problem is, that i'm from Austria (German speaking). Most of my clients will come from Austria and Germany. But i think due the extremly high shipping costs for a large print from U.S. to Europe, i will not sell at least one print via Fotomoto. :-)
To solve this, i could self fulfill the orders, which is well implemented in Fotomoto (thanks for that). But the problem is, that the print service which i would use, offers much more product types than Fotomoto. Also the describtion of products which are offered by both print services (like posters), does not fit.

Therefore, it would be very helpful, to implement the possibility to customize the products (add new ones, delete existing products) and to change the product describtion.

To be honest, i'm not able to wait until it's implemented. I need a solution within the next few weeks/months. But maybe other people will help this.

    Hi Thomas,

Thank you for posting your feature request as an "Idea" - that's exactly the right way to get the idea to our product team for consideration. We have had several other sellers ask for this as well, and we'll be directing future inquiries to this topic so they can +1 (vote for) the idea. The more people that ask, the more likely we are to offer a solution in the future.

Just a bit of history here - we only recently (November 2012) added the ability for users to fulfill orders themselves, and you are correct - there currently isn't a way to define the product specifications or description as needed to match the products that you might currently offer.

Since the goal is to be able to give your customers an accurate description of the products you sell, your only option at this time is to make sure you can fulfill the products as described.

Our product team is aware of this situation, and we do plan to address it in the future, but I can't offer any timeline as to when we might add the ability to define custom products in the Dashboard.

I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek

Is there an update to this situation? Has anything been done to bring this to fruition? What's the status?

      Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the post, and unfortunately there is no update on the situation for the moment. We are under new ownership and there is a lot of work to be done so we're not likely to get to this in the near future, although it would be a great option!

I'd suggest that you continue using Fotomoto if it works for you in it's present state, otherwise check back with us in the future to see if there has been any progress. We'll definitely update this post if anything changes.

      Thanks and kind regards,
      Derek

Has there been any more discussion on this topic for you guys? This option would really make my ordering process so much, It would also allow me to use Fotomoto a lot more in my order process.

  • I guess it's not looking like this is not going to happen?
That's too bad as it would really work perfectly for sales if we could do this. But to be limited to a specific type of paper and printer and size makes that quite complicated. The way fotomoto works now looks more like it's tailored towards weddings and events and portraits and not for art.
    • Hi all,

Thanks for the posts and interest in this feature. Please keep the +1's coming.

We likely aren't going to get to this feature in the near future, so hopefully it's not too much of an inconvenience to fulfill the same products and sizes that we offer via Fotomoto. Our initial issue was that we didn't offer self-fulfillment and shipping prices were getting high for non-US customers, so we changed how the system works to accommodate fulfillment at other labs, but the intent wasn't necessarily to support fulfillment of other products entirely (though it would be great as you mention).

We understand how this would benefit some of our users (including wedding, event and art sellers), but please understand that we have a small engineering team and a large number of high priority development projects in the queue, so we have to prioritize the development effort to first focus on the issues that are affecting everyone.

Still I hope Fotomoto offers a workable solution for you, and if I can help with anything just let me know as always!

      Kind regards,
      Derek
