I’m undecided

Customizing Toolbar

I am having some trouble. I have tried to create a new site and set it up to look just like my main site with the tool bar.

#1 the separator is no longer editable so I am stuck with the default "|" pipe character which has now invaded my main site and I wish it was gone. It really doesn't look right when the separator is showing and it is separating nothing.
#2 my css that I copied from the other site is not working 100%. It does not respect my .FotomotoToolbarClass a:hover section and shows the links underlined. This does work though on my main "site".

http://phoc.us is my site.

My other site( http://phoc.us/? ) is not viewable with the toolbar right now. I have setup a second "site" that I use from sundown friday to sundown saturday that only allows ecards to be sent and no sales. My site automatically switches the scripts at the appropriate times and that is why you can not see the other site at this time. It's a hack but it does what I need to be able to keep my beliefs and not sell thing on the sabbath.

I found the CSS info page and figured out how to hide the separators as well as use the !important declaration to force a setting.

All is well in my corner of the world once again. I don't know why it was broken, maybe something about the new update changed it a bit since nothing changed on my end.

Now I just wish that I could somehow include a piece of text in front of my "prints" and "cards" links without including that in my link... I probably can I just need to learn more to be able to do it.... using the div thingy doesn't work as that forces a new line... Any idea on how I might be able to do this? if not it's no big deal.

    Hi planetrobert,

So just to make sure I'm understanding here, you want to put text in the buy button toolbar that is *not* a link, maybe like this?

sometext Buy Print | some other text Buy Card

If that's the case, you'd have to use the API, but it's easier not to if you can avoid it by putting the text somewhere else that's not in the middle of the buy button toolbar.

Let me know and we'll get you to the next step.

    Thanks
    Derek

    I’m confident
actually I was trying to make it do something like...

    purchase a Print | Card

as it is right now it says that but it's all link and when I have an item that is cards only it is missing the "purchase a " bit of text. I have tried a bunch of different ways of forcing it but none seem to work.

Well, if you want the text to be on the same line as the buy buttons, I think the only way to do that is to use the API. It's a little more involved, but not all that bad. See the "Example - putting a buy button under a photo" section on that page, as well as the API Sample Page, and just let us know if you need a hand.

    Thanks,
    Derek

    I’m thankful
Thanks, I'll play with that for a bit and see if I can get it working the way I want without too many late nights fiddling with code. I am not really good with js but I can usually clobber something together if I try for long enough. That sample page should be enough of a kickstart for me to be able to figure it out on my own.

You guys are great with your support and always seem to have an answer or can find one.

Consider my ramblings here done and all my problems solved.

  • i'm also trying to hide the pipe character. the original poster seemed to have found the solution, but he doesn't say what it was. was it the lines

    .FotomotoSep4 {
display:none; /* hide the separator after Share */
    }

?? if so, whereabouts in my custom css should i put it? it doesn't seem to be working.

    Hi photoguy,

That's the correct code to hide the fourth separator - you can use the CSS "display: none" property to hide any one or all of the separators.

You should be able to put it in anywhere in the custom CSS field as described in this article.

If it's not working for you, just make sure you're hiding the correct separator, and check that your CSS doesn't have an error in it. If you need a hand, just post or email us the URL for your site and we can take a quick look at your CSS for you to make sure all is well.

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Derek

  • indeed! the problem was that i didn't realize that there were a Sep1, Sep2, and Sep3 before the Sep4. i incorrectly assumed that all of the separators were referenced by just one name. in hindsight, it seems obvious, i guess, but the css info page isn't clear on that point. but thank you, it's resolved now.

    • thanks. actually, i meant this one, at the very bottom. i think it would be more clear if, in either the explanation or the commented out text, it used the word "fourth". then it would be completely obvious that "Sep4" was the fourth separator.

of course, if i had read the page that you linked to more carefully *before* reading the page that i linked to above, i would probably already understand that fact.

anyway, thanks again. all is well.

You're very welcome photoguy and per your suggestion, I've updated the comments on the example to make the example more obvious.

      Kind regards,
      Derek
