Do you need a particular Business Catalyst site for fotomoto to work on it?

I'm a member of Adobe's Creative Cloud which includes 5 "basic" Business Catalyst (BC) sites. When I went to follow fotomoto's direction for integrating it with BC, I found that my BC dashboard did not show the options indicated in fotomoto's instructions. I'm, therefore, assuming that these instructions were based on a different type of BC site, such as an e-commerce site. Could someone please verify this for me? Thanks!

    Hi Fontaine,

Adobe may have updated their offering since we wrote the install guide; I'll have to check in to the details to accurately answer your question here, but I want to get you an answer as soon as possible here, so two things:

    1. If you were able to install Fotomoto on an ABC site but it's not working as expected, please see Missing the Fotomoto Buy Buttons? or send us an email with the site URL and we'll be happy to take a look at it for you.

    2. If you're trying to figure out how to install Fotomoto, on your site, the goal is just to paste the Fotomoto Script somewhere in your template such that it will appear in your page(s) source HTML, there may be an answer on how to do this in their support documentation.

Again, I'll check in to this, but hopefully the above will help you get things up and running even before I reply back =)

    Kind regards,
    Derek

  • Thanks so much for the response, Derek. No, I was not able to intall fotomoto on ABC because my dashboard (and trust me, I checked) does not show the same options as those in your instructions for BC. I will try the workaround you suggested in #2 and see how far I get. Fortunately, I have another non-BC site where I plan to also upload my site--once I'm able to integrate TTG's page.

Although I'm not sure, I suspect that anyone signing up for a free BC site will see the same BASIC options on their dashboard. In fact, they may explain what you get with their various types of sites on their order page.

Since I do get these 5 free sites w/ my Creative Cloud membership, I'd like to take full advantage of that, if possible.

I look forward to hearing more about a more permanent response to my question.

  • I guess you haven't been able to do more research on this, yes? I really would like to use my ecommerce page but not sure I can since I've only got a "basic" business catalyst site. Since they have an ecommerce offering of their own, I'm skeptical that they would allow ecommerce on their basic sites but perhaps, if it's not using their ecommerce software. But still, your instructions on working w/ business catalyst sites will need to change since I do not see the options you indicate.

Hope time will allow you to work on this problem soon!

    Hi Fontaine,

I was able to get started on researching this but not finish. However, I did see the different site type options that you referred to, and maybe that's enough to answer your question: the answer should be that Fotomoto will work with any of them, but may not work with certain types of galleries...let me give you the general explanation and see if this helps.

First, for Fotomoto to work on any site, you just need to be able to add our JavaScript to the page code, and it needs to be allowed to run. At last test we were able to do this on ABC sites.

Second, once installed, Fotomoto will detect images on a page and add the Buy Buttons to them. This almost always works for single images on a page, but if the site uses JavaScript or other code to sequentially display images, Fotomoto may not work depending on the code (or library) used. Here is a list of the JavaScript libraries that Fotomoto is known to work with. Note that some development effort is required to get Fotomoto to work with other scripts.

I hope that explanation helps, and honestly the easiest way to see if Fotomoto will work is to try it. If you can get the Script installed so it appears in your page's source HTML then you're most of the way there. If you get that far and it doesn't seem to work, just send us an email with the URL for your gallery and we'll be happy to take a look.

    Kind regards,
    Derek
