Files renamed on import from squarespace?

It seems like my file names are getting replaced. When I look at the file info it says things like

File Name:
?format=300w

Is there a way to fix this? (And sort by file name?)

  • Hi Ginny,

As far as I know, Squarespace does not typically rename your image files - this is something that you'd want to check with them on, as we don't do any renaming on our side.

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Derek

    Thanks, Derek -

It seems weird. Everything is labeled on squarespace and my original file names should be good too. But none of the names are getting picked up. Could it have something to do with the template (v6, Qubert)?

All of my files have something like that "File Name: ?format=300w" under file name on the fotomoto interface. I'm also having duplicate files imported. I think I've figured out why (I entered both ketubah-arts.com, www.ketubah-arts.com, and the squarespace url as an alternate as it seems to instruct in settings - deleted extra URLs but I still have all these images to sort out).

Is there a list view of the files? It would help to be able to see where the image was pulled from.

  • Hi Ginny,

Thanks for the extra explanation and the URL for your website. I can see that your images are being loaded in to your Dashboard with filenames like "?format=1000w".

I will see if there's anything on our side that we can do to address this.

Thanks in advance for your patience and kind regards,
    Derek

  • I purged all the images. Started over. I'm not having as many duplicates, but this problem persists.

I'm ending up with duplicates named ?format= x for every size instead of the image names. It is also garbling the image url, as there are many different images all ending up with file names that are the same thing. I think it is also making the buy buttons load incompletely in firefox as it scans for different files. Safari seems ok. So far, but then this is what happened before I started getting all the duplicates before too.

I'm asking for help from squarespace too.

    Thanks,
    Ginny

  • Hi Ginny,

Thanks again for pointing this issue out - it appears that Squarespace has changed the format of their image URLs with Squarespace 6 sites, so image filenames now show up in the Fotomoto Dashboard as ?format=x where this didn't happen with Squarespace 5 sites.

The unfortunate result is that you'll see multiple thumbnails show up in the Dashboard for each image (?format=1500w, ?format=750w, etc.). This is because our system treats any image with a different URL as a unique image, so it loads each one separately in the Dashboard. This also means that Auto Pickup won't work, as the ?format=x filenames can't be matched to your original image filenames.

We are looking in to how we'll address this issue and I'll post an update here as soon as I have it.

Thanks in advance for your patience and kind regards,
    Derek

  • I’m concerned
Please do let me know. I'm also working on it with the squarespace people.

The disabled auto-pickup is not an issue as I want to upload customized files for each print order anyway.

When I was trying to sort out the duplicates, I was checking their origin urls and found that images with the same name "?format=x" were pointing to non-matching image pages. It seems that the system was confused by the same names. If this is happening how will I know that someone is ordering the right image?
    • Hi Ginny,

When an order is placed, you'll be able to see what images were ordered on both the email notification you'll receive, and also in your Fotomoto Dashboard. I wouldn't worry about the wrong images being ordered though.

I'd suggest that when once we've updated our Squarespace support that you click Buy Print and go through the order process as if you were a customer so you can see how it all works - just don't enter anything in the payment screen unless you want to order test prints (which we do recommend and offer at cost so you can see how the prints turn out).

Hope that helps and kind regards,
      Derek

  • Also, I got some info from squarespace that might help others, so I will post it here and on the other thread about squarespace that I started.

Buy buttons will not show up on their default galleries pages. You have to make a custom page and insert either image blocks or a gallery block in the slideshow format.
    • Hmm. I'm not seeing that working on my site. I've tried all of the block options - and I don't get the fotomoto code (other than on a single image).

      Hi Andy,

I looked at your page and it seems you've got a few different gallery types inserted there. What you'll probably want to do is use just one gallery type, either the "Grid" or "Slideshow" type, and as I mentioned above, you should see the Fotomoto Buy Buttons on either type as soon as we've updated our support for Squarespace 6.

Note that for now, if you insert a single image in a page (or blog), you should see the Buy Buttons working as expected.

I hope that clarification helps and kind regards,
      Derek

    Hi all,

We are happy to announce that we have just released the updated support for Squarespace, and Fotomoto should now work nicely with any of the themes below, using any type of Squarespace gallery (except for the "Carousel" type).

    Adirondack
    Avenue
    Aviator
    Bedford
    Five
    Forte
    Marquee
    Native
    Wells
    Wexley

Part of this update addresses how filenames are handled. For clarification, when you upload an image to Squarespace, several different versions of the image are created so that they can deliver an appropriate size image to the viewer depending on what size display they are looking at. Now Fotomoto will now properly only add one version of the image to the Fotomoto Dashboard, making your Collections much easier to manage.

For updated instructions on how to install Fotomoto, please see How do I install Fotomoto on Squarespace? and if you have any trouble, please send us an email and be sure to include the URL of your website.

Thanks for all of your patience and kind regards,
    Derek
