Flexible Sizes and Maximum print size - how does it work?

I've looked at many posts in here and I'm still confused.

With Flexible Sizes enabled, the Fotomoto widget offers many sizes which are WAY too big for a quality print, considering the source file I have. So of course, I'd like to limit the sizes offered, which I understand is a common issue.

So I made a Collection called 'Smaller Photos' for which I chose only ten acceptable print sizes:
4"x4"
4"x5"
4"x6"
5"x5"
5"x7"
5"x10"
6"x6"
6"x8"
6"x9"
8"x8"

As a test, I tried purchasing a specific photo and I got the dreaded "We cannot determine the pricing for this image at this time" message.
- The selected image has a ratio of 4:5
- As you can see, the print size 4"x5" IS among my acceptable sizes

I would have expected Flexible Sizing to offer the 4"x5" as the one and only choice.
Can someone explain what's happening and how to obtain the desired result (setting an upper limit for Flexible Sizing)?

Thank you kindly,
F.

  • Hi Frank,

Let me see if I can simplify all this for you. Longer story short, if you use Flexible Sizes, only enable all the print sizes up to the larges sizes that your original images can support.

For example, if you have an image with resolution that's sufficient only for sizes up to 20", disable all the print sizes larger than 20" in your Dashboard, meaning 30"x30, 30" x 40", 30" x 45", etc.

I hope that helps, and just in case you haven't seen it yet, please check out our official article on Print Size Options - hopefully that will also help clarify things.

    Kind regards,
    Derek

  • Hi Derek,
    Thanks for answering so quickly!

I may have explained it wrong but what you suggest is exactly what I did: in that collection, I've disabled all the large sizes. In other words, in that collection, the largest image cannot be printed larger than 8x8. That's why the only remaning choices are the ones I listed above.

It seems I'm missing something... Any other ideas or suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks again,
    F.

  • Hi Frank,

I was unable to locate your Fotomoto account by searching for your last name, so could you send us an email via http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/... and be sure to include either the domain of your site or the Store ID # from the Settings page of your Dashboard so I can take a look at how you have things set up?

In general, if you have Flexible Sizes enabled and have only enabled a subset of print sizes, then you need to make sure to enable all the sizes for any given width, for example, 8x8, 8x10, 8x12, etc., to make sure that our system can find the appropriate size in the desired set of print sizes...8" sizes in this example. Also, you'll want to make sure the images you want sold that way are in the right Collection.

I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek

  • Hi Frank and anyone reading along. The answer to this post can be found in our Why can't I offer 4" x 6" or 5" x 7" or 6" x 9" or 11" x 14" prints? article.

I hope that helps and kind regards,
