I’m frustrated

Fotomoto with DM Albums (or any for that matter)

Hi. I'm trying to get Fotomoto to work on my website. I know my theme works with it because I had a problem with it picking up my site logo and if I create a post with just a single image on it the toolbar shows up.

After messing with god knows how many different gallery plugins (from your recommended list) I finally found one that seems to work with my theme and looks somewhat like what I want. However, I can't get Fotomoto to pick up the images. No toolbar anywhere.

I really want to use your service. I just can't believe how much trouble I've had getting things to work.

I was at one point able to get it to somewhat work with Lightbox Plus. The toolbar showed up under the thumbnail images but wouldn't show up under the larger image. When you selected the buy option, it would give options for the cropped thumbnail... Not what I want. I couldn't get it to work right so I went looking for other options.

This brought me to DM Albums. I've got a test gallery set up here: www.cicadiaimages.com/photo-prints

Why am I still not seeing the toolbar? I've performed all the steps listed on the FAQ page about this issue and they all check out so I am at a loss now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ETA: After looking at someone elses gallery, I really want to go back to the LIghtbox Plus setup. So I'm changing the setup back to that. I don't want it to pick up the thumbnail images. Instead I want it to put the Toolbar in the window that pops up. Everything above still applies, it just has to do with the Lightbox Plus setup instead of the DM Albums setup.

Sorry this is so convoluted. I've been wracking my brain on this for the past 24 hours and I'm getting a bit delirious.

  • Hi l.h.cavins,

    Sorry to hear about the troubles and glad you asked for help - hopefully we can save you from any further frustration =)

    I'd suggest you go ahead and install the Lightbox that you prefer, then even though you're using an 'unsupported' theme, I'll be happy to take a look and at least make sure you've got the Fotomoto settings right so you can see if everything works.

    I took a look at your site + what you seem to have installed, and I'll warn you that Fotomoto doesn't work with the Nivo Slider, so you might need to use something different for a slideshow (maybe Galleria?), but from what I can see you should otherwise be fine.

    You'll need to re-activate Fotomoto, then send me any specific URLs that you're having trouble with and I'll be happy to take a look.

    Kind regards,
    Derek

  • The only place the Nivo slider is used is on the front page. I'm not using it for the galleries. Does that make a difference?

    I went in and reactivated the Fotomoto plugin and now the toolbar is showing up under the thumbnails in the gallery but still not in the popup. I'm using the default wp gallery with Lightbox Plus now, just to clarify.

    The url of my test gallery is still the same: cicadiaimages.com/photo-prints

    Thank you for the help!

  • Thanks for re-enabling Fotomoto so I could see.

    First keep in mind that your theme is not on our list of compatible themes, so this article applies in your case, but I'd like to see if I can make it work.

    First question: do you want the Buy Buttons on the thumbnails? If no, please change your "Minimum Width or Height for Images" setting to a value larger than the thumbnails (like 151).

    Also, I saw that your header image had buy buttons under it, so I went ahead and added that image to the 'Not for Sale' Collection, as explained in this article.

    I'm investigating why the Buy Buttons are not showing up in your lightbox - I will let you know as soon as I have more on this.

    Thanks,
    Derek

  • I’m thankful
    I understand that it isn't a supported theme and I really do appreciate you helping me anyway.

    No, I don't want the toolbar on the thumbnails. I'll change the minimum width setting so it doesn't show up. I left it that way so you would know that the toolbar will show up on that page.

    Thank you again for looking into this for me. I will be anxiously awaiting your reply!

    • Ok. Thank you so much.

      Do you think this is because it is an unsupported theme? I've been looking at the elegant theme website and I'm considering a switch. I found them through your list of compatible themes. Would it just be easier to switch and chalk the whole thing up to an incompatible theme?
    • Just thought I would update: I don't think this is a theme issue. I just switched the theme to the Twenty Twelve theme and it still doesn't work. I'm at a loss. I'll stop messing with it and just wait and see what you come up with.

  • Hi l.h.cavins,

    Sorry for the delay. I just took another look at your site and it seems the galleries are not currently available - could you send me the URL for another page where I can take a look? Perhaps a test page?

    Thanks again,
    Derek

  • Another update for you here - we've completed our tests with ColorBox, and currently the latest version we support is 1.3.15, which you should still be able to download from their github repository at https://github.com/jackmoore/colorbox

    Note that Lightbox Plus implements ColorBox as a lightbox image overlay tool for WordPress

    I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek

  • Well, since I had not heard anything I went ahead and did a complete reinstall of wordpress. I also switched to a theme from elegantthemes.com.

    So I don't know if that would have fixed the other problem since I no longer have that set up.

    Elegantthemes uses Fancybox. Fotomoto still doesn't work on the pop-ups. It works fine on the single pages, I just don't get any purchase links on the pop-ups, which is where I need the purchase links.

    Here is a link for you to see http://cicadiaimages.com/gallery/

    ETA: Scratch that... The links are showing up... They are just behind the overlay at the very bottom of the page. I tried to implement the CSS fix for DeepFocus, but it doesn't change anything.

  • Ok. I've got the CSS to show the toolbar above the overlay. I cannot seem to make it move up to the top of the page though.

    I want it to look like the way this person has it: http://www.pureshadeofcolor.com/2011/...

    If you could just help me to get the toolbar into a workable position, I'll be out of your hair.

  • OK, so to move the Buy Button toolbar up a few pixels, you can use the custom CSS shown in the first example on this page
    http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/...

    .FotomotoToolbarClass {
    margin-top: -8px !important; /* move 8 pixels up */
    }

    Note the example you referenced is also using these font display rules on

    .FotomotoToolbarClass a {
    font-size: 12px;
    font: arial;
    color: #333333;
    }

    I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek

    • I figured it out. You can close this now.
    • Nice work l.h.cavins!

      As for Fotomoto being "plug and play", it works on a relatively huge number of websites, and we do our best to make everything work as well as possible for as many people as we can! Keep in mind that this is a big job given the thousands of themes available, and we only recommend certain themes - because we've tested them and they work.

      If you have any suggestions for how we can improve, please feel free to post them here.

      Kind regards,
      Derek
