I’m confused

multiple copies of same photos

I'm using a tumblr site, and it seems as though every time I visit one of my pages, it uploads another copy of that image into the fotomoto images. I tried already deleting them all and re-visiting the pages to get them back, but then they woulnd't show up! So I rebuilt the pages in tumbler, re-added the images, everything was fine, and then I visited a page to check how it was working, and once again it brought another copy of the same image into FotoMoto. I'm not sure if it will continue this ad infinitum, but it sure is confusing.

How to fix?

    Hi marian,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, given the way Fotomoto works, this will happen with Tumblr sites. The reason is that we add every photo with a unique URL to your Dashboard, and Tumblr apparently uses many different unique URLs for each image.

There's not much I can offer to solve this on our end other than let it happen and occasionally delete all the images in your account if it gets bothersome. You could contact Tumblr to see if there's any way to prevent them from using dynamic URLs for each image...one can always try =)

Perhaps not the answer you were looking for, but I hope the reply was helpful nonetheless.

    Kind regards,
    Derek

But that's madness! I see now that every time it adds a new image, it puts it in the default collection ... so that now images that were meant to be in Collection B, are overridden by the new image coming in and being put in Collection A (the default). How is it possible that this problem - which essentially makes Tumblr unusable for Fotomoto - has not been noted?

In short, I would take Tumblr off your list of compatible websites. (It also renames all the images, making it impossible to use autopickup as well.)

    Hi Marion,

Yes, we realize that this is a less-than-ideal situation, and it started happening when Tumblr started using dynamic URLs for their images - it hasn't always been that way.

You *can* still use Fotomoto, and it's not so hard to manage if you mostly use only one Collection, but obviously there can be a lot of repetitious moving of duplicates if you need to move images to another Collection.

We are looking for ways to potentially solve this in the future, and I'll definitely let our product team know how you feel about it.

The best option I can suggest for now is to use one of the other services listed here:

    Kind regards,
    Derek

  • Thanks Derek,

Yeah ... I'm now looking at Squarespace... or I my get my web developer to build me something in Drupal.

    Hi Marian,

Squarespace is a great option, as are a few others including liveBooks! Your developer could make something for Drupal as well, but just keep in mind that there is not as much documentation for that platform + Fotomoto as there is for, say, WordPress which we have a plugin for.

If you need any assistance on choosing the right platform for your needs, just let me know - I'm glad to help.

    Kind regards,
    Derek
