New Fotomoto Widget (v3.0)

We have been working on the new version (v3.0) of our widget for a while now. After testing it on selected websites for a couple of weeks, we are happy to announce the public release of the new widget to all users.

We have completely redesigned our widget. The photo preview area is now bigger, all products are accessible from the main window, selecting the crop-area is much more user friendly, check-out process is two-steps shorter, and the overall design is cleaner and more beautiful. Beside that the new design will let us reduce the number of toolbar buttons to a single "Buy" button (which will be coming soon!).

Let us know what you think about the new widget!

Looks great! Obviously there is the massive aesthetic improvement, but the layout (especially choosing paper options) is amazing! If I had $1 for every time someone complained to me about not being able to find the promised paper options on the old version I'd not need to sell anything! but it's impossible to miss the options now!

    Great job guys!

  • I think the new version looks much better than the old.

One question though... could there be a one-line space on it that we can put a custom message to potential buyers? I watermark my website images, so it would be nice to inform the customer that the watermark would not be visible on the print.

    Thanks!

  • I am sorry, to me the new version is a disaster.
The brainchild of earlier versions was the possibilty for the buyer to see each photo as it would look on their wall in a (relatively) correct size.
I already present the photo itself large-size on my website.
Is there any possiblity to bring up the old interface through a software switch?

    • Again, I am really sorry that you have dropped the "Product Preview".
I am selling the photo - which I show in a large size on my own web.
You are selling the prints in different sizes - which you should visualize in your interface.
After having decided for a photo the biggest problem for any customer is the size and how it will fit on their wall.
Why not the possibility to bring up the old preview through a parameter in the API for those who want it?
Program-wise, this is an easy task.

      Hi Terje,

We very much appreciate your comments here, and our product team *is* listening to the feedback we're getting here.

About offering the old preview based on an API parameter, we're not likely to do this as it would require extra maintenance and support, but again the feedback is helpful to us when we consider future revisions to the design of our product.

      Kind regards,
      Derek

  • I’m frustrated
Are others here not infuriated by the choice to make the new widget only display 3 absurdly chosen sizes? Fotomoto skips my 3 biggest sellers, 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10 and shows a small as 8x12, which few people want to buy, and medium and large as 20x30 and 30x40!

Even worse, If I turn off everything except the 3 popular sizes, 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10, Fotomoto chooses a small as 8x10 and displays only that! This doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm really surprised that more people aren't up in arms about this, as it's completely killed my sales. I've had clients tell me that they bought nothing because I didn't offer reasonable sizes, which means they didn't see that Fotomoto has hidden the sizes they want to buy behind a More Sizes button.

Am I alone in this frustration?
    • You are not alone, It bugs me too, I never had loads of sales but since the switch to v3... 1! (who was a friend too!)

I have now had to set up an auto-responder to reply to people who email me about selecting product sizes! I don't understand why they are being so firm about this, they want to save space so only show three, that's fine- but why can't we (as the people who sell products they make money from) select which sizes we want displayed? It's absurd!

I have always been a firm supporter of fotomoto: they have a small team and work hard but I have to say, this and the never-ending wait for framing means they they are lucky they have no competition of similar services as I know I would have seriously looked at switching away and think many others would have too.
