Not enogh Lightbox-like Libraries working currently

The only box I can get working correctly in WordPress seems to be Thickbox, which isn't even being developed any longer.

I also have Galery 3 installed, but it's JQuery libraries are all out of date too. It seems like only one developer is working on it right now, Bharat, and he's only able to give a couple hours a week.

I am trying to use a plugin for Thickbox called Auto Thickbox Plus that works over the built in WP Thickbox. I've tested it with the FM buy toolbar and it works! So if I can get the image titles resolved using Auto ThickBox Plus, and other problems current using Auto Thickbox, I can still use FM.

Color box is the newest thing using current J Query protocol, and that's what I have been using, since I need the image file name in the box to display. It's also the best looking with lots of out of the box options.

So, although I really need to set up eCommerce on my WP site, I'll have to wait for some library updates in order to use FM.

My other option is to go with Photocrati themes and their built in Photographers eCommerce solution, which I am looking into currently.

Hopefully, soon, the libraries will be brought up to current versions. I know Colorbox has been broken since the last JS update, about 7 months ago.

My point is that until the libraries are updated FM is greatly limited in implementation. I've spent countless hours now trying to use FM with my WP site using a *box that I can work with, but to no solution.

Derek has been very helpful and without his help I probably would not have even put this much effort into FM.

However, this was exactly what I was afraid of happening, as is the case so often with this type of thing: Countless hours only to finally understand that the product isn't really robust enough to use properly in my situation.

  • UPDATE;
While not as ideal as Arni Fraken's bridge of Colorbox in WordPress, I found Auto ThickBox Plus that also works with NexGEN Galleries. It has the option to display the image file name too, among many other options.

So it looks like I'm in business until the ColorBox Library can be updated.

Glad I decided to do one more research into how to solve my problem.

For those who use WordPress and WordPress + NexGEN galleries, check out "Auto ThickBox Plus" here:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/a...
    Also works with WordPess Galleries.

Note: I could not get it to work properly when using both NexGEN Gallery and NexGEN Optimizer plugin. After disabling the Optimizer, it worked fine. There seems to be a css and js conflict when running ATB and the Optimizer together.

    Hi dwdallam,

I'm glad you found a lightbox that works for you. Our team is aware that our support for the various lightboxes out there is limited and not 100% up-to-date, but we are planning to at least update support for Colorbox as soon as we can get to it.

Thanks for your understanding and kind regards,
    Derek

  • I’m frustrated
I'm finding myself in the same situation: after hours of experimentation, I can only get FM to work with Fancybox, with the menu displayed at the top of the page. Unfortunately, that's really not where I want the FM menu.

I'm not a casual user and have some experience with setting up Wordpress and coding (I feel sorry for the everyday user).

Every time I try another lightbox, I search the FM online support only to find it is not supported or only a 5 year old version is supported. Very frustrating to say the least.

I'm quickly reaching the point of abandoning the whole Fotomoto project. To much fiddling required to make it work!

      Hi Michael,

Thank you for your post and I'm sorry about any frustration that you're experiencing. As mentioned above, we are aware that our lightbox support is limited, but you should be able to use any of the lightboxes we support, possibly including newer versions.

If there's a supported lightbox that you're not able to get working with Fotomoto, please email us the URL for the page where you have it installed and we'll be glad to take a look at what's happening.

I hope that helps and kind regards,
      Derek

    Hi all,

Just an update regarding fancybox here - we now support up to version 3.5.2 and there is a custom Buy link in the fancybox toolbar. For more info, have a look at https://getsatisfaction.com/fotomoto/topics/fancybox-3-now-supported.

Also, we are working on support for Lightbox 2, so look for that in the not-so-distant future.

Hope that helps give you a few more options!

    Kind regards,
    Derek
