One image not showing all selected print sizes

One of my images (maybe more?) is not showing the selected print sizes (shows some but not all like others do)

The image is on this page:

top row 5th image from the left.

This image is in the same collection as the others with the same sizes selected.

  • Hi dwdallam,

Thank you for your question. I am guessing that the image in question is a different aspect ratio than other images in the same Collection. Here's more on the subject:

If you've enabled x print size but you're not seeing that size available in our shopping cart Widget, the most likely reason is that you're using one of the "automatic" Print Size Options ("Flexible Sizes" or "Crop Using Smart Size Matching"). With both of these options, our system will try and pick the "best fitting" print sizes based on the aspect ratio of your image. These automatic options work best for most of our sellers because they customers won't be forced to make significant crops to the images in the Widget as would be needed to fit certain print sizes.

If you want to "force" our system to use specific print sizes, then you'd need to choose the "Crop To All Selected Sizes" option, but before you do that, we highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the different Print Size Options and how they will affect your customers' shopping experience. If you do choose "Crop To All Selected Sizes", you may want to consider cropping the images to best fit the sizes you've enabled.

You can read more about our Print Size Options at

I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek

Derek, I have already read those explanations, many times, believe me.

I'm using Flexible Sizes, and the option states:

"The Flexible Sizes option allows you to easily offer print sizes that match the aspect ratio of your image. We will print on a slighly larger paper if necessary, and trim the print based on your actual image, so that no part of the image is cropped."

The smallest size offered for this print is 8" x14" but it would fit fine on smaller paper too.

I don't understand why this image is causing any problems for a smaller sized print.

  • I found another image cropped similarly that is also only showing a minimum size of 8x14.4". It seems once the ratio gets to a certain point, the system won't use a smaller size. The image on my site is 800 x 445px or 6" x 11" inches, a 3.6:2 aspect ratio. It's not a radical crop really. A 3.6:2 aspect ratio, for instance, would fit on a 4x6 print after trimming the height.

Now that I'm looking, I'm seeing more images doing this with only small cropping to the height of the 3:2 aspect ratio my camera uses. It seems even minimal cropping off the height of the 3:2 aspect ratio makes the system not want to print anything less than 8" wide.

    Here is another example:

  • Hi dwdallam,

The issue with http://dwdallam.com/WP/wp-content/gal... is that the image is a wide aspect ratio, and doesn't fit "well" with a 5"x7", nor a 4"x6". If you enable the "Crop To All Selected Sizes" print size option, you'll see that the customer would have to crop the image significantly to fit either of those print sizes.

For a bit of background on why this is an issue, the small print sizes (8" width or less) aren't printed from a roll, rather we use specific sized papers which can't be cut to fit, so the "flexible" concept doesn't work on the smaller-sized prints, See Why can't I offer 4" x 6" or 5" x 7" or 6" x 9" or 11" x 14" prints? for more information.

I hope that helps and kind regards,
    Derek

  • OK thanks Derek. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation.
