Option to use Fotomoto e-commerce site engine with self produced prints

I want to sell my own printed prints, charge via cc or paypal directly and ship my own prints - I only need the software solution that Fotomoto offers.

It would be great if there were an option for the photographer/website owner to fulfill the orders themselves, either through an outside printing company or by printing and shipping themselves.

Have an option for Fotomoto to take a commission of the sale and pass the order information to the photographer.

This would allow photographers outside of the U.S. to charge much less for shipping, and allow those who already have relationships with local printing companies to continue to use them while still generation a profit for Fotomoto.

I'm very interested in the ability to add custom products even if giving fotomoto a cut for the trouble. It would save the confusion my customer may have about multiple checkouts on my site for prints and other handmade items.

    Thanks

Having been testing fotomoto, one issue I am having is the produced prints being too dark. That issue is answered elsewhere in this forum and, although the explanation makes sense, I can't see why it is an issue.

At the moment I calibrate my (flat) screen and use it to process my RAW files. When I am happy I take the jpegs to my local professional printer and tell them to process them as they are, ie. no tweeking. The produced prints are fantastic!

Process the same file through fotomoto and the photo is much darker.

I am starting to see that the only way I can use this solution long-term is to hold 2 jpegs for each image: one to show on my website, the other to use for printing. I can't see that going too well.

What do others do about this?

Given that the fotomoto software is great, the best solution I see is for fotomoto to pass the order on to me and I process and post it.

    • As always I appreciate the feedback.

To remove any ambiguity whatsoever, I shoot in RAW. Post-processing I save both the RAW files and the resultant jpeg's from any shoot however I only use the jpeg for printing, displaying etc., i.e. your assumption was right. I'm pretty sure most photographers work the same way.

I have considered creating a batch process however being able to create an effective single process for ALL photographs is unlikely to work.

I think I'll just keep an eye on how things develop here and do some more thinking.

      Cheers,
      Gavin
    • I experienced this with a lab I use. Couldn't understand it, as during post, the histograms looked good and my monitor is calibrated. Solution was quite simple - my monitor was too bright !! The lab tech recommended turning the brightness down, either manually, or via a lower luminance level next time I calibrated.

Judging apparent brightness on a backlit screen (a light source basically) for print is very difficult when the screen looks bright and contrasty !!

I hope to see this implemented. Not to be taken personally but I don't trust anyone to print my work. My prints are all made and personally signed by me and sent to collectors and galleries who are very discerning.
It would be nice to use your intuitive catalog and cart functions, though, if they are offered as standalone services.

    • Thanks Derek!

I will certainly follow to see any upcoming announcements on this. I love the ordering workflow and ease of integration of your product. I do, however, have a big investment in my own printing infrastructure that I'd like to leverage.

While we're at it, if you do decide to pursue this option, I'd also like to see a custom branding option (i.e., use my own graphics rather than yours, perhaps with a small "Powered by FotoMoto" at the bottom).

I appreciate your attention and responsiveness!

    • No problem Guy - I'm glad to help.

You bring up another popular topic on our forums, discussed in threads like this one.

Long story short, we don't have any immediate plans to offer a 'white label' or un-branded cart. We recommend that sellers position Fotomoto on their sites as a separate professional print partner that is 'hand-selected' to handle printing and e-commerce. Of course if we offered self-fulfillment, you could leave out the part about the printing =)

      Thanks again,
      Derek

Seems peeps have been asking for this since last year - any news yet?

PhotoShelter offers this. I don't see what fotomoto's point of indecision is on order self-fulfillment.

Here are 3 good reasons to allow customers to fulfill their own orders or choose their own print and product providers:

    • Implementing self-fulfillment would take very little work

    • Offering self-fulfillment opens up a world of possibilities for fotomoto customers

    • Allowing this creates mass potential for great increases in fotomoto's customer numbers

  • Hi el Rafa,

Thank you for your feedback on this, and unfortunately I don't have any new news on the subject.

Our product team is well aware of the requests from our sellers, and this is still a topic that's on our list of things to address, but it hasn't yet reached the top of the priority list yet.

We'll update the thread here as soon as we have any updates.

    Kind regards,
    Derek

This is another vote for self-fulfillment. I sell fine art photographs, and I'm not wild about the idea of my customers getting a image that I didn't print. Particularly since Photomoto does not offer any ICC profiles for soft proofing images. I'm using Photomoto now because it was quick to set up on my site. But without self-fulfillment, I'm going to have to try another service.

  • HI,
This is something that I want too.
For me the postage prices for Europe are too high (€7.99 to Ireland)
And I like to sign each photo myself.

Besides that I love the ease of fotomoto and love that it adds the buttons to all my exisitng images.

    Cheers,
    Pa

  • I feel that the option to deliver myself is most important when it comes to selling greetings cards – in the UK, delivery is more than printing costs! I fully understand why this is the situation, but the option to deliver cards myself would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    • Thanks for your reply Derek.

I apologise for my somewhat antagonistic comment – I realise you have pressures from multiple angles. It is just frustrating for me, given that I love your product, that I don't feel I can charge those sorts of prices. I don't have a problem with the shipping costs for your other products (print, canvases etc), but with cards, when you add the printing company's take + Fotomoto's take + shipping it becomes uneconomic on a single card basis.

By the way, I would also like to point out that £6/$9 is the price if I make £0 profit.

Thanks again, keep moving it up the list :)

You're welcome Mark. There's not much else I can say here - I understand that shipping gets expensive when going across the pond. To help explain that we're doing what we can, regular prints are now printed in the UK to reduce shipping costs, but cards are still printed in the US.

Moving as quickly as we can here, but I don't want to get your hopes up about self-produced prints, as we're not likely to offer this in the near future.

Hope the explanation helps and kind regards,
      Derek

Self fulfilment is a must. I have sourced my preferred supplier and want total continuity of pricing and specifications throughout my product range. Also the UK carriage would then be realistic.

    Derek-
Can you explain why this is not likely to happen?
I would be happy to provide 5-7% to Fotomoto for the ridiculously simple task of facilitating an order. This would make it so much easier for me to sell matted and framed prints.

  • Hi All,

Just in case you haven't heard the news already, you can now use Fotomoto to purchase prints that you fulfill yourself. For more information on how, please see
How to manually fulfill orders that you print yourself or via a 3rd party.

    Enjoy!

  • Hi,
I've followed the steps for self-fulfilment but what about shipping costs? Can I set the shipping costs so that a potential buyer will see the cost up? Currently it's still saying €7.99 for (8" by 12") shipping.

If I can get this to work I'll be delighted and recommend Fotomoto to everyone!
I've found my answer here https://getsatisfaction.com/fotomoto/...

    Thanks,
    Patrick.
